A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but has a different meaning. There are many homophones in the English language. Some homophones are more common than others. Some common homophones are; to, two and too / there, their and they're / you and you're. It is important to learn the meanings of homophones for they can be confusing since they sound the same but have different spellings and meanings. Homophones are two words that are spelled differently but have the same sound. One example of this are the words hare and hair . If you hear them out loud without seeing them written down, you don’t know if you are talking about a hare (rabbit), or a hair (growing on your head).
