9. Why should an electrician use rubber gloves while repairing an electric switch at your home?

Ans: Rubber gloves are used as insulators. This prevents the electrician from being electrocuted. That is why, when repairing an electric switch, an electrician wears rubber gloves.

10. The handles of the tools like screwdrivers and pliers used by electricians for repair work usually have plastic or rubber covers on them. Can you explain why?

When students understand the working principle of these cells, they can move on to the experiments. There are two DIY activities that students can perform at their home. The first one includes understanding the architecture of a torch bulb. Candidates can take out the bulb and study various parts of it. The filament, for instance, provides the light, with the help of an electric cell.

Bulb Connected to an Electric Cell

In the following section of electricity and circuits class 6, students learn how to light a torch bulb using an electric cell. This section includes a step-by-step guide on how to execute this process successfully.

Students can take two electric wires of different colours and cut-off their plastic covering to bring out their metal cores. After that, they need to join one end of the exposed metal portion with the cell and the other one with the bulb. They can use tape used by electricians to stick them.

Students can then experiment by interchanging the wires and note down the results to discuss later.

Electric Circuit

As the name suggests, this chapter in NCERT class 6 Science chapter 12 presents a detailed understanding of electrical circuits. Taking a cue from the previous experiment, students had already learned the basics of an electrical circuit when they lighted a torch bulb with an electrical cell.

In the previous experiment, they created an electrical circuit by joining this electrical cell with a torch bulb. They created a clear path where the electricity is passed between two terminals of electric cells. Class 6th Science Chapter 12 further provides a DIY project that students can perform to improve their understanding of a fundamental electrical circuit.

Electric Switch

Class 6 Science ch 12 then discusses the concept of an electric switch. Electric switches are mandatory in an electrical circuit as they control the flow of electricity with that particular circuit.

There is an activity mentioned in this section that students can perform to improve their understanding of electrical switches further. This activity includes the usage of some household materials like Thermo Col or wooden board, paper clips, safety pins, etc. to create a circuit and an electrical switch.

Chapter 9: The Living Organisms Characteristics and Their Surroundings

In Class 6 Science Chapter 9, you get to learn about the different environmental conditions to which certain animal get adapted for their survival. Under the Habitat and Adaptation section, you learn about the terrestrial and aquatic habitats. Here, you also get to learn different changes the animals undergo to survive in their habitat. Chapter 11: Light, Shadows and Reflections

This chapter basically discusses various phenomena related to light. Chapter starts with an interesting activity to lead students differentiate between transparent, translucent and opaque objects. Further in the chapter we get to earn about the formation of shadow. Applications of reflection, working of a pinhole camera, mirrors and reflections are the discussed in detail here.

Chapter 12 of class 6 Science deals with the concepts related to electricity, electric circuit, switch, conductors and insulators. Thus chapter explains working of an electric cell.
