Unlocking the Benefits of International Roaming Plans for Business Travelers
Business travel has become an integral part of today’s globalized economy, with professionals frequently jetting off to foreign destinations to meet clients, attend conferences, or explore new business opportunities. However, one major challenge that often arises during these trips is staying connected while abroad. This is where international roaming plans come to the rescue. In this article, we will explore the benefits of international roaming plans for business travelers and why they are a vital tool in today’s interconnected world.
Seamless Connectivity Across Borders
One of the primary advantages of international roaming plans is the ability to maintain seamless connectivity across borders. Traditional mobile phone plans typically do not offer coverage outside a traveler’s home country, resulting in expensive roaming charges or unreliable network connections. With an international roaming plan, business travelers can overcome these hurdles and stay connected wherever their work takes them.
International roaming plans provide access to a wide range of networks in different countries through partnerships between mobile service providers. This means that regardless of your location, you can easily make calls, send emails, access important documents on cloud storage platforms, and even participate in virtual meetings without interruptions or delays.
Cost-Effective Communication Solutions
For business travelers who frequently embark on international trips, managing communication expenses can be quite challenging. The high costs associated with traditional roaming charges can quickly add up and become a burden on travel budgets. International roaming plans offer cost-effective solutions by providing pre-determined packages that cater specifically to frequent travelers’ needs.
These plans often include features such as discounted call rates, data bundles at reduced prices, and even unlimited messaging options. By opting for an international roaming plan tailored for business travelers, professionals can significantly reduce their communication expenses while enjoying uninterrupted connectivity throughout their trip.
Enhanced Productivity on the Go
In today’s fast-paced business environment, staying productive while traveling is essential for professionals. International roaming plans play a crucial role in enabling enhanced productivity on the go. With access to reliable internet connections and seamless communication channels, business travelers can stay connected with their teams, respond to urgent emails, and collaborate on projects regardless of their location.
Moreover, international roaming plans often offer additional services like access to exclusive airport lounges or priority check-in at partner airlines. These perks can significantly enhance a business traveler’s overall experience and help them make the most out of their time spent away from the office.
Peace of Mind and Security
Traveling abroad for business can be stressful, especially when it comes to staying connected and ensuring data security. International roaming plans provide peace of mind by offering secure networks and data encryption protocols. This ensures that sensitive information shared during calls or online transactions remains protected from potential threats.
Furthermore, some international roaming plans come with added benefits like travel insurance coverage or emergency assistance services tailored specifically for business travelers. These features provide an added layer of security and reassurance, allowing professionals to focus on their work without worrying about unexpected challenges that may arise during their trip.
In conclusion, international roaming plans are an invaluable asset for business travelers in today’s globalized world. They offer seamless connectivity across borders, cost-effective communication solutions, enhanced productivity on the go, and peace of mind regarding security. By unlocking these benefits, professionals can make their business trips more efficient and successful while staying connected with their teams no matter where they are in the world.

What is Integrated Business Planning (IBP)?
Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is a common-sense process designed for effective decision-making and owned by an organization’s leadership team.
IBP allows leaders to plan and manage an entire organization over a 24-to-36-month horizon. This enables alignment of strategic and tactical plans each month and allocation of critical resources, people, equipment, inventory, materials, time, and money, creating satisfied customers in a profitable way.

What is the difference between IBP and S&OP?
There are many differences between Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and Integrated Business Planning (IBP), but firstly it’s important to note that IBP is not a supply chain process; it has a much broader reach. IBP is the process that connects an organization’s strategy and business plan to ensure both are delivered.
The purpose of IBP is not to drive a better forecast with which supply chain can plan. It is the process that brings focus to the deployment of a business strategy and provides a framework for effective decision-making to drive growth.
IBP is a company framework to surface and solve problems and continually re-optimize plans as circumstances change. It enables organizations to create an aligned, cross-functional plan, based upon key assumptions. These assumptions, documented and updated each month, are based on insights.
To learn more about what sets Integrated Business Planning apart from Sales & Operations Planning read our white paper, Don't fall for fake news; a buyer's guide to Integrated Business Planning .
What is finance’s role in IBP?
The central role of finance in IBP is to provide a vital business partnership, enabling visibility and accountability for the financial outcome.
Finance is pivotal in the development of successful IBP in all areas of the business. It must move to challenge and support the organization and act as an enabler rather than compliance police. In this way, finance becomes part of leading the business not only in day-to-day activity but by engaging in commercial strategies and solutions that drive better results.
Read our white paper, Show me the money. The Role of Finance in Integrated Business Planning to learn more.
How is the success of IBP measured?
The success of IBP should be measured in terms of its contribution to the delivery of an organization's strategic objectives. At the most basic level value out needs to significantly exceed the effort put in to run the process. ‘Value out’ (measures of success) is different for every individual business and to a large extent dependent on their maturity. Typical reported quantitative benefits include growth in both revenue and margin, a healthier portfolio, shorter lead times, better customer service, and reduced inventory. Qualitative measures of success include significant simplification of the annual budgeting process and faster issue recognition and decision-making. This is enabled by high-quality decision support information and one set of numbers.

How does the monthly IBP review process work?
IBP is not just a set of meetings, it is an ongoing process that includes some formal, calendarized decision-making forums. It must also be tailored to fit the organizational structure and decision rights. However, there are some common attributes across the process.
Each month, key decision makers come together to review what has changed of significance since the previous cycle, how that affects their ability to deliver the business plan and strategic goals and, crucially, what to do about it. These decision-making forums are clustered around the core business areas; Product & Portfolio Management; Demand (Commercial) Management, and Supply Chain Management. Wherever possible decisions are made in these forums. Where this is not possible issues and opportunities are escalated through a process called Integrated Reconciliation which gathers up and prioritizes decisions which are then brought to the Management Business Review, which is the leadership forum.
Organizations must have the right structure, people, and information flows pitched at the right level of altitude and materiality. Accountabilities and decision rights must be clear. The reviews should be 2-3 hours in length and focused on making decisions about significant issues and opportunities, not just sharing information, so preparation is crucial. Each activity and all the reviews along with their inputs and outputs need to happen ‘on the clock’ i.e., to the agreed timetable every month. The process map brings efficiency, the content brings effectiveness, decision-making delivers value.
At what level of granularity should you be planning for IBP?
One of the most frequent errors we see is organizations trying to run the IBP process at too detailed a level. People then spend far too much time just trying to gather that data rather than doing meaningful analysis and reaching conclusions.
A key piece of design work is to establish the right level of granularity that both enables visibility of key issues and is manageable in terms of analysis and preparation. IBP is focused on managing significant changes in the medium to longer term (typically months 4 to 36), so you must think about what does ‘significant’ mean in your business in that horizon and what are the significant changes that need to be decided via the process vs what is covered in the functional ‘day job’.
Each review will look at information at a ‘family’ level. Note that it is not expected that each review looks at families in the same way. They need to see different dimensions of the plan to drive the right conversations. For example, the Demand Review could look at brand/channel; application or therapy area depending on the sector. Supply would look, for example, at technology groupings; liquids, powders, bulk, packing lines etc.
How does IBP exert control over the supply chain?
IBP ensures organizations have one integrated set of plans and are aligned across the business as to how to deliver the business plan and strategic objectives, as well as manage risks and opportunities and buffer against uncertainty. This means organizations have the transparency needed for the supply chain to make informed decisions on how to deploy resources; sourcing; inventory policy; how to manage risk and/or constraints.
How does IBP allow for flexibility in supply chain planning?
Fundamentally the supply chain is managing the business investment in resources, be they people, equipment, materials. IBP brings transparency on expected issues and opportunities and decisions on how those should be managed.
IBP relies on clear accountabilities and empowerment. A core principle is that decisions are pushed down the organization as far as is practical. Within the scope of that empowerment the supply chain can then decide how best to plan and flex the resources it controls.
Greater understanding of the business direction and priorities enables the supply chain to build in planned responsiveness more effectively. Scenario planning is a key facet of IBP. In addition to responding to the commercial plans, supply chain can be more proactive in bringing scenarios and options to the organization.
Can IBP optimize inventory?
Inventory optimization is one of the most frequently reported benefits of IBP. Investment in inventory is a business decision but is often made in isolation by people in the supply chain based on history, by commercial people second guessing how best to protect their customers from uncertainty or even by finance to hit year end targets. This can lead to a problematic situation where the overall levels of inventory are too high, but service levels are impacted by out-of-stock situations.
In an IBP environment there is collective cross-functional agreement on how best to manage uncertainty, how much we want to invest in putting buffers in place and how best to deploy that investment. Supply chain teams can then use this shared forward view to get to the sweet spot of optimizing service, cost, and inventory.

Key figures are the numerical values that you use to measure progress and success in IBP. They can be things like sales figures, production figures, or inventory levels. You can use key figures to set targets and track progress over time.
17. What are the different types of demand data that can be used in IBP?
The different types of demand data that can be used in IBP are historical sales data, point-of-sale data, shipment data, forecast data, and market data.
18. What is the process of defining a planning strategy in IBP?
The process of defining a planning strategy in IBP begins with understanding the business process that the planning strategy will be used for. Once the business process is understood, the next step is to identify the key inputs and outputs for the planning strategy. With the inputs and outputs identified, the next step is to determine the best way to map the data from the inputs to the outputs. Finally, the last step is to test the planning strategy to ensure that it works as intended.
19. Does IBP have any special requirements when it comes to hardware?
No, IBP can be run on any standard hardware.
20. What is your opinion on the cost of using IBP as compared to similar systems like Oracle or JDA?
I believe that IBP is a more cost-effective option than similar systems like Oracle or JDA. IBP offers a lot of the same features and functionality as those other systems, but it is typically priced at a lower cost point. That being said, the cost of IBP will vary depending on the specific needs of your business.

SAP IBP Interview Questions and Answers
1. What is SAP IBP?
Answer: SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) is a real-time integrated planning solution based on SAP HANA. It provides integrated, unified planning across sales and operation, demand and inventory with analytical dashboard for monitoring.
2. What is Best Practices for IBP?
Answer: SAP Best Practices for SAP Integrated Business Planning (Best Practices for IBP) gives you everything you need to run planning processes in the IBP applications: IBP for demand, IBP for inventory, IBP for response & supply (time-series based optimizer and order-based planning), IBP for sales & operations, IBP for demand-driven replenishment and Supply Chain Control Tower. All scope items are based on one comprehensive data model which enables you to execute an integrated, end-to-end business process.
The extensive documentation of solution configuration and process execution is a good resource for self-study, evaluation, as well as for project team and end-user training.
Best Practices for IBP was formerly known as Rapid Deployment Solutions for SAP Integrated Business Planning (RDS for IBP).
3. What is included in the Best Practices for IBP content?
Answer: Best Practices for IBP content includes: an activated planning area for a quick start, planning view templates for interactive simulations and what-if analysis, predefined dashboards for embedded analytics, SAP JAM integration for context-aware social collaboration, alert definitions for exception-based planning and sample data to showcase the end-to-end process.
Accelerators and documentation include: a customer scope presentation, sales supplement with business value, demo script, detailed scope presentation, master data overview, planning view templates, et al.
4. Why should I implement IBP now and not just wait?
Answer: One of the interesting revelations from Sapphire is that IBP is just a good platform for unmet business needs – not necessarily supply chain functionality that SAP is developing. One company is using it strictly as a financial budgeting tool, while another suggested using it for deployment calculations. With the Excel frontend, a speedy HANA database, and standard data extraction toolset, there is really no limit to what we’ll see companies using this tool for in a few years. So the sooner you get into the tool and start using it, the more ideas you are going to get to use it. Also the S&OP functionality is ready to go and leverages the same data that will be needed for demand and supply.
5. What are the Key Features of SAP IBP?
Answer: Following are the key Features of SAP IBF −
- End-to-end supply chain visibility
- Unified, integrated, and cross-departmental planning approach
- Simple and easy-to-use user interface
- Advanced demand sensing, analysis, and predictive forecasting
- Embedded social collaboration and MS Excel-based planning
6. Who can use Best Practices for IBP? What does it cost?
Answer: Anyone with a subscription to SAP Integrated Business Planning can take advantage of Best Practices for IBP. There is no cost to use the Best Practices for IBP content.
7. What are the applications to use SAP Integrated Business Planning?
Answer: To use SAP Integrated Business Planning, you use the following applications −
- SAP Integrated Business Planning for sales and operations
- SAP Integrated Business Planning for demand
- SAP Integrated Business Planning for response and supply
- SAP Integrated Business Planning for inventory
- SAP Supply Chain Control Tower
8. Does IBP integrate with BPC?
Answer: We have no doubt at all that IBP can extract whatever data is necessary from a BPC system. What is unclear at this time is what data can be integrated back into the BPC system; at the IBP roadmap session, nothing was specifically highlighted. For a more in depth answer to this question, refer to the SCN blog entry by Arnaud Sergent here (note that SCN requires SAP login).
9. Where can I find more information on Best Practices for IBP?
Answer: The main information site for Best Practices for IBP can be found in the SAP Best Practices Explorer: https://rapid.sap.com/bp/RDS_IBP
Here you will always find two versions: one for the current IBP release and one for the previous IBP release. Please select the appropriate version in the drop-down box at the top of the page that matches the release of your IBP system.
You can also download all provided content and documentation as a .zip file and store it offline by choosing the Download button at the top of the page.
10. Do we need to buy a separate HANA product (i.e. S/4, BW, etc.) in order to use IBP?
Answer: No, the IBP system (cloud version) comes with its own HANA database and does not require additional HANA purchases to be able to utilize IBP functionality.
11. How is SAP pricing IBP?
ANswer: Some general points of discussion concerning SAP’s IBP pricing strategy:
Generally speaking, IBP is a cloud application that utilizes a revenue based yearly subscription model (standard disclaimers apply here…I don’t work for SAP, cannot speak for SAP, etc.).
There is a separate yearly subscription required for each module (S&OP, Control Tower, Demand Management, Inventory, Response and Supply Management).
There looks to be a revenue “floor” under which the pricing model no longer calculates. That said, I have heard rumors that SAP is looking for a way to address this in the near future but no details have yet been communicated.
12. How can I install Best Practices for IBP? Answer: If the Best Practices for IBP have not been pre-installed when the tenant was provisioned, or if the Best Practices for IBP content is from a previous release and needs to be updated, it is possible to manually install the latest Best Practices for IBP content.
Download the SAP Best Practices package, with all documentation of how to install the content, from https://rapid.sap.com/bp/rds_ibp (click on “Download” in the upper-right corner).
The package includes all installation instructions, including how to create the planning area (by copying sample planning area SAPIBP1), how to upload sample data and how to install all the additional application content. This should take approximately 2-3 days’ effort for all IBP components (less if you pick and choose only certain components).
13. Is IBP ready for prime time?
Answer: Typical consulting answer: It depends. From an IT perspective, it is a solid application since it uses components from established SAP applications. For example, the HANA database, the MS Excel front end, and the HCI data integration platform, etc. are all proven SAP technologies. The S&OP application in IBP is mature enough to be implemented right now and should provide value quickly. It was evident from the IBP roadmap session here at Sapphire that there was a lot of functionality in release 6.0 (due later this year) that a client may just want to wait for (e.g. statistical models, full optimization, etc.). So the full answer here is that it will depend on your individual requirements as to which parts of IBP would make sense to implement in your organization today.
Frequently asked SAP IBP Interview Questions
14. Once I log in, where can I find the Best Practices for IBP content?
Answer: The pre-installed content can be found in the dedicated Fiori apps:
- Charts in Advanced Analytics (starting with IBP release 1705);
- Dashboards in Advanced Dashboards;
- Forecast models in Manage Forecast Models;
- Segmentation rules in Manage ABC/XYZ Segmentation Rules;
- Customer alerts in Define and Subscribe to Custom Alerts;
- Planning view templates in Excel IBP ribbon under Template Admin → Templates; etc.
15. Do we need to implement IBP big bang or can we phase the implementation?
Answer: There should be no “need” to implement the entire company on IBP at once. In fact, IBP tends to lend itself to implementation in smaller sections (e.g. division by division, plant by plant, functionality by functionality, etc.), utilizing lessons learned from previous implementations to fine tune the models as it is rolled out.
16. What is the pre-installed planning area called?
Answer: Starting with IBP release 1808, the pre-installed planning area with the Best Practices for IBP content will be named “UNIPA”. The description of the planning area includes the release, e.g. Unified Planning Area for 1808).
For the IBP releases 1708 – 1805, the pre-installed planning area with the Best Practices for IBP content was named “UNIPA” + the IBP release number (e.g., “UNIPA1708”, “UNIPA1711”).
Planning areas for previous IBP releases were named as follows:
- IBP release 1705: UNIPA07
- IBP release 1702: UNIPA06
- IBP release 1611: UNIPA05
17. Do I have to choose between APO and IBP or can both applications live in blissful harmony (much like ECC and APO do today)?
Answer: No, both of these applications can live in relative harmony, although we think that APO is looking at IBP with the green eyed jealousy of a 4 year old with a newborn sibling. APO is still king of the long term statistical forecast in the SAP landscape (for now) as it has many more statistical models and forecasting bells and whistles to support the forecast generation process.
Where IBP really shines is its ability to allow for forecast overrides without the inevitable disaggregation issues or having to use drill down macros that can dim the lights. Using both of these applications in unison could provide a blended toolset that provides your users the best of both worlds if you are already using APO Demand Planning. If you have no APO footprint currently, you will again need to look to your individual requirements to understand how IBP can currently meet those requirements as a standalone application.
18. How can I verify whether the Best Practices content is installed, and whether it is up-to-date?
Answer: The best way is to use the Configuration app under Planning Area and Details and search for an active planning area starting with “UNIPA”.
If there is no “UNIPA” planning area, then the Best Practices for IBP have most likely not been pre-installed when the tenant was provisioned.
If you do find a “UNIPA” planning area, the Best Practices for IBP have most likely been pre-installed when the tenant was prov isioned. The description of the planning area will tell you the version (see above). For example, planning area “UNIPA07” means that Best Practices for IBP were pre-installed with IBP release 1705 and the associated Best Practices content.

Checklist integrated business planning.

If you have completed the first few phases of Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and are now ready to take things to the next level, it is time to take a closer look at Integrated Business Planning (IBP). The IBP process enables companies to make decisions about supply and demand from the perspective of the impact on their (financial) objectives.
Whereas S&OP often revolves around the feasibility of the (local) sales plan, IBP is focused on creating the optimal plan for the whole supply chain as well as the financial objectives for the next 18 months. The added value of IBP can vary from one company to another and depends on the strategy. For one company the added value will lie in optimizing the utilization of the production capacity, while for another it will be gaining market share through the controlled scaling up of new products and services. But it always revolves around being able to anticipate and adapt the supply chain to developments in a timely and integral manner in order to achieve the (financial) objectives – i.e. the year’s targets in terms of revenue and profit.
Involving the entire chain
IBP is all about integral decision-making. This requires active involvement from Finance, Sales, Product Management & Marketing, Production, Purchasing and Logistics. To what extent does everyone within the company regard the IBP process as the key platform for business planning and decisionmaking? IBP will broaden the scope of the supply chain, such as in terms of analysis of the possibilities and limitations of critical suppliers, or valorization of raw materials based on their expected (limited) availability and the level of demand in various markets.
Supply Chain Media and consultancy firm Involvation have developed this checklist to provide insight into the added value and the potential of your IBP process based on the following ten questions
