All Office applications have a Home tab, which is the default tab of all Office applications. The home tab in Microsoft Word has five groups of related commands:
When you writing a document, you might need to Copy some text, an image, or other item and Paste it in various places. Or, you might want to use the Cut command to move a piece of text or other item from its original location and Paste it elsewhere (see, Office Clipboard ). Or, you might need to copy formatting and apply it on various pieces of text using the Format Painter .

- Cut The Cut command ( Ctrl+X ) cuts the selection and keeps it in the clipboard.
- Copy The Copy command ( Ctrl+C ) copies the selection to the clipboard.
- Paste Options The available options vary depending on the type of content that you have cut or copied to the Clipboard.
- Paste Special This option enables you to convert the format of pasted item.
- Set Default Paste Allows you to customize the behavior of paste command.
- Format Painter This command allows you to copy multiple formats from selected text to another, instead of repeating the formatting manually over and over.
- Clipboard Task Pane The Clipboard pane lists your copied items and allows you to paste any of its items into the current document.
The options under this tab include font size, font type, increase and decrease font, bold, underline, and italic.

- Font The Font drop-down menu provides the list of available fonts which you can apply to selected text.
- Font Size The Font Size drop-down menu allows you to set the size of selected text.
- Increate Font Size You can use this command (or keyboard shortcut CTRL+Shift+> ) to increase the font size of the selected text to the next largest size.
- Decrease Font Size You can use this command (or keyboard shortcut CTRL+Shift+< ) to decrease the font size of the selected text to the next smaller size.
- Sentence case Capitalizes the first word in the selected text.
- lowercase Convert the selected text to lowercase.
- UPPERCASE Convert the selected text to uppercase (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+A ).
- Capitalized Each Word Capitalizes the first letter of each word.
- tOGGLE cASE Reverses the case of each letter in the selected text.
- Clear All Formatting This command removes all the formatting from the selected text.
- Bold This command (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+B ) makes the selected text bold.
- Italic This command (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+I ) makes the selected text italic.
- Underline This command (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+U ) adds a line under the selected text. The Underline drop-down menu provides different types of lines (dotted, thick, dashed, etc.) which you can easily choose from. You also can change the color of Underline by using the drop-down menu.
- Strikethrough Strike through the selected text. It is commonly used to describe the previous or rejected text.
- Subscript Superscript text appears below the line, such as 5 2 . This command makes the selected text subscript, the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+= .
- Superscript Superscript text appears above the line, such as 5 2 . This command makes the selected text superscript, the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift++ .
- Text Effects and Typography You can use menu to apply formatting that makes the selected text look like a WordArt object.
- Text Highlight Color The command highlights a color (choose from the drop-down menu) to the text. You can activate this command without first selecting the text to randomly highlight the text. Choose Stop Highlighting from the drop-down menu or press Esc key to deactivate this command.
- Font Color This command changes the color of the selected text. You can choose a custom color for your text from the command’s drop-down menu.
- Font Dialog Box Press CTRL+D or click the dialog box launcher button in the bottom-right corner of the Font group to open the Font dialog box. This dialog box contains all your font-formatting in a neatly organized fashion.
The paragraph group contains lists (number, bulleted and multilevel), indent, sort, alignment, spacing and many more commands to set the look of a paragraph.

- Bullets Create a Bulleted List.
- Numbering Create a Numbered List.
- Multilevel List Create a Numbered List with several levels.
- Decrease Indent This command moves the paragraph closer to the page margin (left-hand side) by decreasing the indent level.
- Increase Indent This command moves the paragraph farther from the page margin (right-hand side) by increase the indent level.
- Sort This command enables you to sort any text. Clicking Sort command button opens the Sort Text dialog box where you can specify the details for the sort.
- Show/Hide Formatting Symbols Hide or show the enter key, spacebar, and other nonprinting characters.
- Align Left This command aligns the current paragraph (or a selection) to the left. You can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+L to left-align a paragraph (or a selection).
- Center This command aligns the current paragraph (or a selection) in the center of the page. To center a paragraph (or selection), press Ctrl+E keyboard shortcut.
- Align Right This command aligns the current paragraph (or a selection) the right. To right align a paragraph, press Ctrl+R keyboard shortcut.
- Justify The justify command is very useful for creating a professional document. Its lines-up neatly on the both sides of a paragraph. Press Ctrl+J keyboard shortcut to justify a paragraph.
- Line and Paragraph Spacing This command allows you to allocate the space between lines of text or between paragraphs.
- Shading This command applies a color background shade behind a heading, a paragraph, or a table cell to draw your readers’ attention.
- Borders This command applies the border to the selected text. The Border command menu displays a list of border options.
- Paragraph Dialog Box Clicking the dialog box launcher opens the Paragraph dialog box with more detailed options for the commands in the group.
The styles group enables you to format a document more quickly and giving it a more professional look.

Style Pane Click the dialog box launcher to display Styles pane. The Styles pane lists the recommended styles. This pane enables you to quickly preview styles and create new styles.
The Editing group helps you to select, find or replace the text, objects and formatting.

- Find Opens the Navigation pane. The keyboard shortcut for this command is Ctrl+F .
- Advanced Find Opens the Find and Replace dialog box with Find tab selected.
- Go To Open the Find and Replace dialog box with Go To tab selected. This command enables you to easily find locations or objects in the document. The keyboard shortcut for this command is Ctrl+G .
- Replace Opens the Find and Replace dialog box with Replace tab selected. This command enables you to replace formatting, a specific word or phrase for another. The keyboard shortcut for this command is Ctrl+H .
- Select All This command (or pressing Ctrl+A ) selects everything (text and objects etc.) in the current document.
- Select Objects Click this command button and drag a rectangle on the page to surround all the objects that you want to select.
- Select All Text with Similar Formatting This command enables you to quickly select the text that has similar formatting.
- Selection Pane Selection pane lists all the objects created by you. Using this pane you can select objects and make them visible or hidden in the current document.
Button Drop-Down - Ctrl Key Result
The Copy Button also puts selected text or graphics into the Clipboard. It remains where it is, though. The keyboard equivalent for this is Ctrl+C .
The Format Painter (Brush) ( Ctrl+Shift+C to copy formatting, Ctrl+Shift+V to paste formatting)
These all work with the Office Clipboard as well as the System Clipboard. You can see what is in the Office Clipboard by clicking on the dialog launcher in the bottom right corner of the Clipboard group.
The top of the Office Clipboard Task Pane will tell you the number of items in the clipboard out of the possible 24. If, with the Clipboard Task Pane showing, you click on one of the items, it will be pasted into your document at the current insertion point even if it was not the last item placed in the clipboard.
Note, the (Windows) System Clipboard holds the last item cut or copied. It only holds one item.

The Font Group
The font group has to do with how characters look. It is distinguished from the paragraph group where the formatting handles the entire paragraph. I am going to divide these controls into three parts: Controls that give you direct formatting or erase that formatting, A Control that changes the Case of text but is not formatting, and Controls that change how the text looks but are not considered formatting. Let's look at the last two types, first, because there are only two of them. Change Case : - Note that Small Caps is not one of the options. Highlighting : - Highlighting is not considered formatting in Word Highlighting cannot be part of a Style definition (unlike shading) and is not reversed by the Clear Formatting button. Next is the Oops button: Clear Formatting, which will strip the effects of the other buttons in the font group from selected text. Clear All Formatting This says it clears all formatting. This is not accurate. It clears all direct formatting, the same as using Ctrl+Spacebar and Ctrl+Q. . It then changes the paragraph style to the Normal style. The Clear Formatting button will clear any of the formatting applied by the remaining buttons in the Font Group or direct paragraph formatting as well as any style formatting. The following are all considered Direct Formatting by Word and can be cleared by the Clear Formatting button (or by Ctrl+Spacebar ). Font Dropdown and Font Size Dropdown These have been a part of Word since at least Word 97. You can click on them to give a list to select from or you can type in them. In the size window you can type a size that is not on the dropdown list. In the Font window you can start typing the name of a font and it will fill in the first font name that fits as you type. Increase Font Size - Grow Font Decrease Font Size - Shrink Font These two buttons will increase/decrease the size of selected text. The increments are according to the font sizes shown in the dropdown for fonts except that for smaller sizes it will go in increments of one that can be lower than any shown. The minimum is 1. Bold (Ctrl+B) Italic (Ctrl+I) These two buttons apply Bold or Italic formatting to text. When the insertion point is inside text that has been formatted as bold or Italic, these buttons will be shaded. Bold and Italic are toggle formatting. I.e., if you apply bold to text that is already bold, it is turned off. Both can be applied to the same text, so that you can have text formatted Bold and Italic . I tend to use the Strong and Emphasis character styles instead of the direct formatting in case of a theme change. There is no built-in style for that. Applying the style is not a toggle. Underline (with options) (Ctrl+U) Clicking on the Underline button will underscore your text. Clicking the little triangle on the right will give you options for the type of underline you want. Once you select an option, that option is active during your Word session (including in different documents). The Underline Color brings up a palette. More Underlines... brings up the Font dialog box which has access to even more underline types. You can only apply one type of underlining to a character. This is character formatting so you could apply different types to different characters in the same word. If text is already underlined and you click on the Underline button, the underlining will be removed. Strikethrough The Strikethrough button gives you a single line through selected text. A double line is possible through the Font Formatting dialog box ( below ). If this button is clicked on text that already has double-line strikethrough, it changes it to single-line. If it is clicked on text that already has single-line strikethrough, that is removed. The Strikethrough button will be shaded if selected text has a single underline applied. Subscript Superscript These decrease the font size proportionally and lower or raise the baseline. These buttons are toggles and will be shaded when text is selected to which they apply. Text Effects Text Effects lets you apply WordArt type appearance to text in the body of your document. Unlike WordArt, Text Effects can be applied using Styles . The Text Effects button is available beginning with Word 2010. The screenshot above is from Word 2013; the last three choices in the menu are not available in Word 2010. This works as a gallery, changing the appearance of text as you mouse-over a type. Also, as you mouse-over, if you pause, you will see background information on the effect. The Text Effects button only works as a drop-down. Unlike the Underline , Highlighting , and Color buttons which also allow choices, it will not apply an effect upon being clicked. You need to pick something. Text Effects work best on larger-size text. On body-size text they will make the text unreadable. For access to all of the options, you need to use the Dialog Launcher . I do not pretend to understand all of the choices in this. Here is an Office-Watch page on them. Font Color If you simply click on the font color button, it will give you the color shown. That color will be the last one applied to text in your Word session. If you click on the drop-down, it gives you selections and menu choices. I try to use Theme colors when they work. That is because if a theme is changed, the color is more likely to fit in. More Colors gives you access to the full palette Gradient allows setting multiple colors fading - this is much more effective with larger text. Font Dialog Launcher (Ctrl+D) As with many of the Groups on the Ribbon, the Font Group has a dialog launcher button in the bottom right corner. An alternative for reaching this dialog box is the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+D . This opens a dialog box that gives control over multiple options and gives more options than do the buttons on the Ribbon. Two not available on the Ribbon buttons are Double strikethrough, and S MALL C APS. In addition, the Underline style gives access to many different kinds of underscores. The Preview box at the bottom previews what you are setting. Under that are buttons that let you set these settings as the default for new documents (based on this template), for text effects , and OK/Cancel. Even more options are available on the Advanced tab of the font dialog box: These have to do with character rather than line spacing. Exploration of these options is beyond the scope of this page. The Paragraph Group
Bullets and Numbering is the top-right section of the paragraph group. For simple documents that will not need much editing, these will work fine. Bullets The first button is for bullets. Clicking on the bullet button will give you a bullet, the type of bullet will be the last type used by you. Following paragraphs will have the same bullet type. When you press the Enter key to create a new paragraph in an empty line, Word will discontinue use of bullets. When you click on the button, Word changes the indents to add a "hanging indent" that indents both the bullet and the associated text. Clicking on the down-pointing triangle will give you choices. You can also choose to define your own bullet icon. For documents that are going to be heavily edited or with multiple kinds of bullets, I recommend use of bullets linked to Styles. See How to control bullets in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly .
The second bullet is for simple numbered lists. Clicking on the button will give you a single-level numbered list of the type last used. Shown below is such a number inserted with the ruler showing. Included with the numbering is a first-line indent and a hanging indent. Your numbered list will be set in from the margin and following lines in the paragraph will be set in more. As with bullets, you can apply this to existing paragraphs. As with bullets, the down-facing triangle will give you more choices. The screenshot above shows the gallery of choices. As with the bullets gallery, the list number gallery lets you preview your choice for selected text. In this show, the current choice is with the full stop following the number; the previewed choice is with a right parenthesis. As with bullets, you can define a new format. In addition, you can reset or restart your numbering. Again, with simple documents that will not be edited much, this button works fine. For anything more complex, you will want to go to Numbering linked to Styles. See How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly . This method gives much finer control and is much less prone to development of "spaghetti numbering."
The little arrow in the bottom right corner of the Paragraph group launches the Paragraph Formatting dialog. Again, such formatting is best done using Styles rather than directly.
The Styles Group
The Styles Group in Word 2007-2010 is shown above. The Styles Group for 2013 and later no longer has the Change Styles dropdown. That has been moved to the design tab in those versions. From Word 2016 on it has become smaller horizontally but still has the expansion dropdown menu. With Word 2021 and Windows 11, a different look was introduced, called the "New Experience." It changed the Styles Group, removing the unformatted names of the styles and instead showing them formatted. This decreases the number of styles that can be displayed. It is possible to add style controls to the Quick Access Toolbar. Here is a link to my free Add-In that does this: Styles QAT Add-In . Clipboard -- Font -- Paragraph -- Styles -- Editing -- Voice (2019)
The Editing Group
The Editing Group actually appears on the far right end of the Home Tab.
The Editing Group has three choices, two of which are drop-down. Find Find ( Ctrl+F ) opens the navigation pane with the insertion point in a search box Advanced Find ( Ctrl+H , Alt+D ) opens the Find dialog box (See Replace below) Go To... ( Ctrl+G ) opens a dialog that lets you go to a point in your document Replace ( Ctrl+H ) opens the Replace dialog box shown below. Actually, it opens a smaller dialog box with everything above "Search Options" on it. In the smaller version the button on the left reads "More >>" instead of "<< Less." Note the Find and Go To tabs at the top. These are the dialog boxes for the Advanced Find and Go To commands. The Replace dialog can be used instead of the Advanced Find box if you want, just ignore the Replace and Replace All buttons. Under both the Find what and Replace with boxes are areas for format. These are controlled by the Format and No Formatting buttons when the cursor is in the box for the text. There are multiple web pages devoted to this dialog box. Here is a place to start: MVP General Word Help Page
The Voice Group - Dictate Office 2019-2021/365 Only
Note that the Online version of Word also has a Transcribe function. As far as I know, this is the only function available in the Online version that is not in the Desktop applications.
Variations on the Home Tab
This page has been exploring the controls in Word 2010 and 2013. The Home tab has remained mostly the same in all versions of Word. Here are some screenshots.
-Word 2007 - wider -Word 2007 - narrower The three tabs above are all screenshots of the ribbon on the same computer. Word repackages the ribbon tabs to fit the available space. Here, I've simply decreased the size of the screenshots of the wider versions. In the wider version, it gives more space to the Styles Gallery. In the narrower version some buttons shrink or lose captions. The combination of screen size and resolution determines what you will see, so your ribbons may not look exactly like any of the ones shown here. Another example showing different screen layouts is in the Word 2010 version of the Drawing Tools contextual tab below. Your ribbon may or may not have a Developer Tab , that is up to you. The Word 2007 and 2010 tabs shown are from a laptop running Windows Vista. The Word 2013 tabs are from a desktop tower running Windows 7 on a larger screen.
Word 2010 - Narrower (Note the collapse of the QuickStyles Gallery and Editing Group. The Quick Styles gallery is now available through the dialog launcher button next to the word "Styles.". Other groups are compressed. This is less than half as wide as the one immediately above it.)

Word: Getting Started with Word
Lesson 1: getting started with word, introduction.
Microsoft Word is a word processing application that allows you to create a variety of documents , including letters, resumes, and more. In this lesson, you'll learn how to navigate the Word interface and become familiar with some of its most important features, such as the Ribbon , Quick Access Toolbar , and Backstage view .
Watch the video below to become more familiar with Word.
About this tutorial
The procedures in this tutorial will work for all recent versions of Microsoft Word , including Word 2019 , Word 2016 , and Office 365 . There may be some slight differences, but for the most part these versions are similar. However, if you're using an earlier version , you may want to refer to one of our other Word tutorials instead.
The Word interface
When you open Word for the first time, the Start Screen will appear. From here, you'll be able to create a new document , choose a template , and access your recently edited documents . From the Start Screen , locate and select Blank document to access the Word interface.

Click the buttons in the interactive below to learn more about the Word interface.

Microsoft Account
From here, you can access your Microsoft account information, view your profile, and switch accounts.
The Tell me bar allows you to search for commands, which is especially helpful if you don't remember where to find a specific command.
Command Group
Each group contains a series of different commands . Simply click any command to apply it. Some groups also have an arrow in the bottom-right corner, which you can click to see even more commands.
Quick Access Toolbar
The Quick Access Toolbar lets you access common commands no matter which tab is selected. By default, it includes the Save , Undo , and Redo commands.
The Ruler is located at the top and to the left of your document. It makes it easier to make alignment and spacing adjustments .
Click and drag the vertical scroll bar to move up and down through the pages of your document.
Zoom Control
Click and drag the slider to use the zoom control. The number to the right of the slider bar reflects the zoom percentage .
Document Views
There are three ways to view a document: Read Mode displays your document in full-screen mode. Print Layout is selected by default. It shows the document as it would appear on the printed page. Web Layout shows how your document would look as a webpage.
The Ribbon contains all of the commands you will need to perform common tasks in Word. It has multiple tabs , each with several groups of commands.
Document Pane
This is where you'll type and edit text in the document.
Page and Word Count
From here, you can quickly see the number of words and pages in your document.
Working with the Word environment
All recent versions of Word include the Ribbon and the Quick Access Toolbar , where you'll find commands to perform common tasks in Word, as well as Backstage view .
Word uses a tabbed Ribbon system instead of traditional menus. The Ribbon contains multiple tabs , which you can find near the top of the Word window.

Each tab contains several groups of related commands . For example, the Font group on the Home tab contains commands for formatting text in your document.

Some groups also have a small arrow in the bottom-right corner that you can click for even more options.

Showing and hiding the Ribbon
If you find that the Ribbon takes up too much screen space, you can hide it. To do this, click the Ribbon Display Options arrow in the upper-right corner of the Ribbon, then select the desired option from the drop-down menu:

- Auto-hide Ribbon : Auto-hide displays your document in full-screen mode and completely hides the Ribbon from view. To show the Ribbon, click the Expand Ribbon command at the top of screen.
- Show Tabs : This option hides all command groups when they're not in use, but tabs will remain visible. To show the Ribbon, simply click a tab.
- Show Tabs and Commands : This option maximizes the Ribbon. All of the tabs and commands will be visible. This option is selected by default when you open Word for the first time.
To learn how to add custom tabs and commands to the Ribbon, review our Extra on Customizing the Ribbon .
Using the Tell me feature
If you're having trouble finding a command you want, the Tell Me feature can help. It works just like a regular search bar. Type what you're looking for, and a list of options will appear. You can then use the command directly from the menu without having to find it on the Ribbon.

The Quick Access Toolbar
Located just above the Ribbon, the Quick Access Toolbar lets you access common commands no matter which tab is selected. By default, it shows the Save , Undo , and Redo commands, but you can add other commands depending on your needs.
To add commands to the Quick Access Toolbar:

The R uler is located at the top and to the left of your document. It makes it easier to adjust your document with precision. If you want, you can hide the Ruler to create more screen space.
To show or hide the Ruler:

Backstage view
Backstage view gives you various options for saving, opening a file, printing, and sharing your document. To access Backstage view, click the File tab on the Ribbon .

Click the buttons in the interactive below to learn more about using Backstage view.

From here, you can open documents saved to your computer or to your OneDrive.
Save and Save As
You'll use Save and Save As to save documents to your computer or to OneDrive.
From the Print pane, you can change the print settings and print your document. You can also see a preview of your document.
From here, you can export your document in another file format, such as PDF/XPS .
Click here to close the current document.
From here, you can invite people to view and collaborate on your document.
Return to Word
You can use the arrow to close Backstage view and return to Word.
From the Account pane, you can access your Microsoft account information, modify your theme and background, and sign out of your account.
Here, you can change various Word options . For example, you can control the spelling and grammar check settings, AutoRecover settings, and language preferences.
The information pane will appear whenever you access Backstage view. It contains information on the current document. You can also inspect the document to remove personal info and protect it to keep others from making further changes.
From here, you can create a new blank document , or you can choose from a large selection of templates .
Document views and zooming
Word has a variety of viewing options that change how your document is displayed. You can choose to view your document in Read Mode , Print Layout , or Web Layout . These views can be useful for various tasks, especially if you're planning to print the document. You can also zoom in and out to make your document easier to read.
Switching document views
Switching between different document views is easy. Just locate and select the desired document view command in the bottom-right corner of the Word window.

Zooming in and out
To zoom in or out, click and drag the zoom control slider in the bottom-right corner of the Word window. You can also select the + or - commands to zoom in or out by smaller increments. The number next to the slider displays the current zoom percentage , also called the zoom level .

- Open Word , and create a blank document .
- Change the Ribbon Display Options to Show Tabs .
- Using Customize Quick Access Toolbar , add New , Quick Print , and Spelling & Grammar.
- In the Tell me bar , type Shape and press Enter .

Microsoft word is a word processor software developed by Microsoft in 1983. It is the most commonly used word processor software. It is used to create professional quality documents, letters, reports, resumes, etc and also allows you to edit or modify your new or existing document. The file saved in Ms Word has .docx extension. It is a component of the Microsoft Office suite, but you can buy it separately and is available for both Windows and macOS. The latest version of Ms Word is 2019. In this article we will learn the features of Ms Word, but first we learn how to open Ms Word?
How to open MS Word?
The following step shows how to open MS words:

Features of MS Word
Now let us discuss the features or components of the Ms Word. Using these features, you can perform different types of operations on your documents, like you can create, delete, style, modify, or view the content of your document.

Adding Your Own Menu Items

Written by Allen Wyatt (last updated July 3, 2021) This tip applies to Word 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003
Word is remarkable in both its flexibility and capabilities for customization. This includes allowing you to completely change the menus within Word, if you so desire. For instance, you may want to add a menu item that runs a macro you have designed. To add an item to a Word menu, follow these steps:
- Select Customize from the Tools menu. Word displays the Customize dialog box.
- Make sure the Commands tab is selected. (See Figure 1.)

Figure 1. The Commands tab of the Customize dialog box.
- In the Categories list, select either the category of commands you want to add to the menu, or select Macros if you want to add a macro to a menu.
- In the list of available commands for the category, select the one that you want to add to a menu.
- Drag the selected command to the menu where you want it added. The menu appears as you move the selected command over the menu name.
- As you reach the point where you want the item to be added, release the mouse button.
Note: If you would like to know how to use the macros described on this page (or on any other page on the WordTips sites), I've prepared a special page that includes helpful information. Click here to open that special page in a new browser tab .

How to add a drop-down list to a word document.
Give people options to choose from!
Quick Links
First, enable the developer menu, add a drop-down list to a word document, configure your new drop-down list, delete a drop-down list from microsoft word, key takeaways.
To add a drop-down list to a Word document, go to Options > Customize Ribbon and enable the Developer tab. Open the Developer tab and click the "Drop-Down List Content Control" button to insert a drop-down button. You can customize the drop-down box by clicking "Properties."
A drop-down list in a Microsoft Word document lets people select from a predefined items list. Adding this drop-down list is fairly easy, and we'll show you how to do it.
The option to add a drop-down list is located in Word's Developer menu. This menu is hidden by default, so you'll have to enable it before you can add a list.
Start by opening Word on your Windows or Mac computer. At the lower left of the window, select "Options." If you already have a document open, select the File menu to reveal the "Options" command.
In the "Word Options" window that opens, on the left sidebar, select "Customize Ribbon."
In the "Customize Ribbon" pane on the right side of the screen, scroll down the list and enable the "Developer" option.
Click "OK" at the bottom of the window to close it.
After adding the Developer menu, you're now ready to add a drop-down list to your Word document. To start, either open an existing Word document or create a new document.
Related: How to Create a Fillable Form With Microsoft Word
In your document, place your insertion point where you want to add the drop-down list.
Next, select the "Developer" menu.
On the "Developer" menu, in the "Controls" group, click the "Drop-Down List Content Control" icon (It looks like an actual drop-down icon.).
You now have a drop-down list in your document.
This drop-down list is not configured and is currently empty. To configure it and add items to it, click the drop-down list to select it. Return to the Developer menu and, in the "Controls" group, click "Properties."
Word will open the "Content Control Properties" window. Start by entering a title for your list. This will appear at the top of your drop-down list.
Note: Word automatically fills in the "Tag" field to match the Title field. The tag for a content control object is used mostly by other programs to identify content control data in a document's XML structure. So, unless you're building some document automation and specifically need to set the tag, just ignore it.
Use the "Color" option to select a color scheme for your drop-down list.
If you want to prevent people from editing your drop-down list, activate the "Content control cannot be deleted" option. Note, though, that unless you lock your document , anyone can go and disable this option.
You'll now add items to your drop-down list. To add your first item, under the "Drop-Down List Properties" section on the current window, click the "Add" button.
On the "Add Choice" window, type a new item name into the "Display Name" field. The "Value" field automatically fills itself with the data from the first field, so you don't have to worry about it.
Then, click "OK" to add your item. Repeat this process for each item that you want to add to your drop-down list.
After you have some items added, you can change their order. To change an item's position in the list, select that item, and then click either "Move Up" or "Move Down" on the right.
Finally, click "OK" to save your changes.
Your drop-down list will now display your added items. Click it to test it for yourself.
To remove this drop-down list from your document, select the list. Then, from the "Controls" section at the top, click "Properties." Disable the "Content control cannot be deleted" option, and then click "OK" at the bottom.
Right-click the drop-down list in your document and select "Remove Content Control." The list will now be removed.
And that's how you give people predefined options to select from in your Word documents!
Did you know that you can add checkboxes to your Word documents , too? This is yet another way to let people select items in your documents.

Ratings and reviews
Location and contact.
Ruski gets 5 stars for one of the best views in the city. As a restaurant, it gets four stars for the food. Especially if you take advantage of their occasional deals, it’s good value for the buck. In terms of service I would give... it 2 stars - largely due to the classic pompous attitude of front desk staff and their archaic reservation policies. If you are late by 20 minutes they won’t seat you even if they have ample space available, nor will they call you to see if you are running late. I understand if the place is full, but this holds true even if it’s empty (similar to Sixty). If you have a walk in, they’ll mostly likely won’t seat you by the window even if the place is empty. Waiters and bartenders provide descent service. More
For views of moscow, this canno be bettered. On the 85th floor with all round glass windows, make sure you go on a clear day and, if possible, get a window table. From here you can see all the way out of the city. Setting... is trendy. Do not expect haute cuisine however, the food is tasty and good value and I had no complaints but, really, it is about the view. More
Absolutely worth at least one visit. Food was great, choice good without trying to be everything to everyone. Table staff know how to look after diners without being intrusive.
The view, the atmosphere and the service were perfect! Lunch was ok ,but nothing special.Expecting more from that restaurant. We ordered different things in order to try but the fish fillet with the tomato sauce and the truffle was a disaster, couldn't recognize what we re tasting.... Service was very good and staff very polite. Think they should improve and upgrade their menu ASAP! More
Visited the restaurant in December, booked a special table for two with the view. The view, that’s what the most popular thing about this restaurant. However, the Moscow fog gave us 0 possibility of the view. So prior to your visit, make sure the skies... are clear) Nevertheless, we had great time at this restaurant with excellent service, food and interior. More

Dear AstghikB3, we are waiting for you again. Enjoy the wonderful view of the restaurant. Regards, Team 354 Exclusive Height
I was invited there by my Muscovite girlfriend. Clearly the view is impressive, live piano music and the food is really good (and Russian). In fact, up until the end of the diner, I was seriously considering giving them the maximum grade and leaving a... very positive review. However we had a nasty surprise. In order to book the table (by phone) my girlfriend had to deposit a sum of money (more than 200$ with her credit card). This was unusual for us but not absurd in the sens that this restaurant is regularly fully booked. What was totally absurd is that at the end of the diner they told us that we ate for around 100$ and that they could not give us back the difference, so de facto doubling the price of our evening. I mean I come from a country were an excellent dinner costs more than 200$ and I would have agree to pay such amount for this anyway because it was of good quality. I’m not shocked by this price but rather by the lack of honesty, they NEVER said in advance on the phone (nor written on the website) that we couldn’t get the deposit back, and my girlfriend is Russian so I don’t believe in a “misunderstanding”, it was pure CROOK. And the manager was down right rude. He didn’t enter into consideration, claiming it was well indicated. I’m now on a computer and I have being reading their website since more than 20mn and I still haven’t find any info about this “200$ threshold”... More
On the 86th floor this Russian style restaurant serves local and international dishes. Both fish, meat and pasta dishes are of excellent quality and have a clear local character. Some of these dishes are - as we were told by locals - also the traditional... ones. Professional and efficient staff serving it and making it a special spot where we enjoyed the delicious food with stunning view over the city. To be recommended ! More
Good starters, average drinks, too much salt in soups and main courses; a tasty and juicy lamb cutlets, and a nice looking, but dry lamb shank; fine service, and noticeable prices. Go there for the breathtaking view of Moscow, but not for a food.
Following the Modern Russian Style... Expensive food, high class, very expensive furniture, golden colour everywhere.... But poor service... Even a bit disgusting at one point... If they feel you are rich, everything Will go well enough... If not, leave soon...
We came to Ruski restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. The impression was spoiled from the very beginning. Our table was booked for 8pm. We had to wait for it for 45 minutes in a bar. Then they gave us a table in front of a... hot open oven. It was very uncomfortable to seat there as it was too warm. We asked to change and they moved us to another hall which looked more like a canteen with loud music and no ambience. I ordered raspberry kvas (a Russian drink), and they brought the drink which looked strange like a suspended matter and tasted disgusting. When I complained they tried to persuade me that this is how the drink supposed to taste but in the end agreed to exchange it. They brought me the same drink from a different barrel which was tasty. So initially they served me some semi-rotten leftovers from an old barrel....obviously they have bad quality control. Food was ok but nothing impressive. To conclude, there are much better restaurants in Moscow. The only thing that distinguishes the place is the view. I would not recommend the place for those that want to good good service and ambience. More
As much as I PERSONALLY want to give them 1 star, It wouldnt be a fare review. Food - 3/5, Depends on what you order, its either tasty or average, in the worst case - food poisoning (which my wife got) Service - 1/5, Depends... on who you gets, Our waiter was very pushy and very rude. Location - 5/5, It is on the highest skyscrape in moscow, very beautiful view. Price - Quite expensive, Depends though on what you order, some is above average. Its was not worth my money! You only pay for the view. Be aware: Speak russian!! because if you an english speaking person like me, the waiter try to fool you! And i hope you wont get food poisoned like my wife. If the food comes out quickly, tell them you dont want it. Overall summary - 2/5 My experience: Firstly I called and booked a table for 2. Two times they didnt understand english, told me to wait and hung up on me (VERY RUDE). After a while I finally got some russian speaking person to book the table for me. Me and my wife were celebrating 8,5 years anniversary - what could beat a nice view in the night of big city of moscow on front of your feets. The answer is THE WAITER and THE FOOD! We sat down in the nice corner with a panoramic view (Awesome). Before we had time to sit down, the waiter came along (felt a little stress) and asked if we want to order anything predish, maindish or something to drink. After some time we order the meals and drinks. LITTERALLY 1 min later, the food came out (I was very suspicous), How could they make my beef tartare in under a minute? So I suspects its very much prepared in advance or either its old (Maybe someone didnt want their meal so I got it?). Anyway, the food tasted alright, above average. It wasnt bad so I didnt complain. When I was done eating, the waiter tried to push me to order a maindish and dessert. I replied that was my maindish and that i want to order a drink instead, HE LEFT! He really dissapeared. He never came back to us until the end. Instead another waiter came and I ordered the drink from him and after a looooong waiting a waitress came and delivered me the drink. When I finally asked for the bill, the waiter asked if I wanted to tip, (even after the POOR service I politely said YES). He then typed in as much as he WANTED to get tipped (There is no rule that you need to tip in RUSSIA and they NEVER expect any tip, It is just a polite gesture if the service been good) I told him that I rather choose myself how much i want to tip. He then said its either this much or nothing. So in the end I gave nothing. He was so upset he threw down the bill in the table in front of me and said "as you wish" and went away. I was shocked and surprised. Never ever in anywhere in any restaurants in RUSSIA ive been treated like this. I was so shocked I had to complain somewhere. The problem is no one could speak nor understand english. So they took up their phone and started google translating. 2 hours later after getting home. My wife started feel bad, dizzy and started to puke very much. She got obviously food poisoned from the food! More
Dear taddeee, we sincerely apologize! You can send your contacts to [email protected] or Facebook. Our manager will contact you. Regards, Team 354 Exclusive Height.
We have been last week for the first time at Ruski. I did a table reservation before so we got a very beautiful table in one of the rooms in the corner with 2 different views, where you have the Federation Tower, Mercury Tower and... others view + the Kremlin view. We were at 19:00 for the dinner, so Moscow by night was marvelous. That room was good because is not central and the kitchen is not there, so you get a pleasant and quiet stay there. Everyone from the staff, starting from the 1st floor to our waiter (Irina I think), did a good job. Our waiter helped with tickets to the observation deck(it is a must to go there while you are here!) and while we were on the roof, our delicious food was prepared. The food was tasty and the red wine was nice. In the restaurant, a lady was playing live music on a piano, which was fantastic! In conclusion, I have been impressed on the service we had and for sure I will visit again this restaurant on my future Moscow visit. More

Must have experience in Moscow @354 metres, amazing view, fine food, excellent hospitality, easy access,
At 354 metres above it is certainly one of the special places to have dinner in Moscow. The restaurant is decorated in very original detail, modern and classy at the same time. The food is of a high standard. Music plays a little too loud... for my liking, but it is also trying to appeal to younger clientele. Would most positively recommend if you are trying to impress someone. More

Ok so the pros first: Excellent view Pretty good food Authentic Russian food Cool atmosphere Good for a special occasion Friendly staff Cons: They didn't have half the wines on the list Cash only!! Can be a bit loud for good conversation Fairly expensive They... do have an awesome ice bar where you can drink vodka and eat caviar which was pretty cool (get it 😂), and they also have an ATM for you to take cash out for your bill at the end. Overall not bad but I probably wouldn't return. More
Rick good afternoon. Thank you for your comment about us. We'll glad to see you again.

Copilot in Windows preview
New! This update adds a preview of centralized AI assistance, called Copilot in Windows . This makes Windows 11 the first PC platform to add centralized AI assistance to help you get things done. This first preview focuses on the integrated UI.
To start, select the Copilot in Windows button on the taskbar (or press WIN + C). Copilot in Windows uses the same Microsoft account (MSA) or Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account you used to sign in to Windows. Note that Azure AD will change to Microsoft Entra ID .
Copilot in Windows appears as a side bar on the right of your screen. It will not overlap with desktop content or block open app windows.
You can ask questions or take actions, such as:
Copilot in Windows with Bing Chat generates responses that are contextual and improves your experience in Windows.
To learn what Bing does with your data, go to Microsoft Privacy Statement . To learn how Microsoft develops AI technology responsibly, see Microsoft’s commitment to responsible AI .
Note The update to Windows 11, version 22H2 coming on September 26, 2023, will be broadly available to Windows customers around the world. Copilot in Windows will start to release in preview to a select set of global markets. It is our intention to continue to broaden availability over time.
New! This update gives a richer preview when you hover over files under Recommended on the Start menu. For this first release, thumbnails will not be available for all files. Also, when you right-click cloud file recommendations, you have the option to quickly share these files.
Taskbar, system tray, and notifications
New! This update adds an enhanced volume mixer to Quick Settings. Using it, you can customize audio for each app separately. You can also swap audio devices whenever you want. The new keyboard shortcut (WIN + CTRL + V) gets you to the volume mixer fast.
It is also easier to turn on the Windows Spatial Audio experience. A new quick access list shows you all the spatial audio technology installed on your device. To find more spatial sound technology, such as Dolby and DTS, go to the Microsoft Store.
New! This update adds “never combined” mode. In this mode, you can view application windows and their labels on the taskbar separately. To find this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors .Set Combine taskbar buttons and hide labels to Never. Also, there is a separate setting for turning this on for other taskbars when you use multiple monitors.
New! Starting in this update, desktop labels appear when you move between desktops in Task View (WIN + CTRL + left or right arrows). New sliding animations will also show when you change your desktops using trackpad gestures, touch gestures, hot keys, and by clicking the Task View flyout box.
New! You can now hide the time and date in the system tray. To turn this on, right-click the system tray clock and choose Adjust date and time .
New! Notifications now show as a bell icon in the system tray. When new notifications appear, the icon will have a fill color based on your system’s accent color. When there are no notifications and the clock is visible, the icon will have no fill color. The number of notifications will not show.
New! This update adds a “view notification” button for urgent or important notifications that you receive when you turn on do not disturb. Select the button to view the content of the notification. This button appears when you use an app in full screen.
New! To minimize distractions from notification toasts, Windows now detects if you are interacting with toasts from an app. If not, a suggestion to turn off the toast banner for that app appears. This will only stop the banner from appearing. You can still find the toasts in the notification center.
New! You can now right-click an app on the taskbar and end the task. This update adds a new setting in Settings > System > For developers to turn on this capability.
New! This update adds the option to start diagnosing network problems from the system tray. To view this option, right-click the network icon in the system tray.
File Explorer
New! This update adds a modernized File Explorer Home that is powered by WinUI . Recommended files display as a carousel. That carousel only appears if you are signed in to Windows using an Azure AD account. To turn this off and show pinned folders instead, select the ellipses. To open theFolder Options dialog, select Options . In the Privacy section, select the new checkbox next to S how recommended section .
New! File Explorer’s newly designed address bar recognizes local and cloud folders. It also shows your file’s status. For Microsoft OneDrive users, the address bar now contains your OneDrive sync status and a quota flyout box.
New! A new details pane in File Explorer (ALT + Shift + P) helps you access related content, stay up to date with file activity, and collaborate without opening a file. When you select a file in File Explorer and turn on the pane, the pane displays contextual information about the file. This includes a file thumbnail, its sharing status and button, emails, and more. To turn it on, select the View menu and choose Details pane . Then use the button located on the right side of the command bar to turn on the pane.
New! This update introduces Gallery in File Explorer. Gallery makes it easy to access your photo collection. The content in Gallery is the same as what you see in the All Photos view in the Photos app. Your most recently taken photos appear at the top of Gallery. This includes photos from your phone if you have OneDrive Camera Roll Backup set up.
You can choose the folders that show in Gallery using the Collection dropdown menu. You can also add subfolders of existing sources to filter to a subset of your content. This includes desktop backgrounds, SD cards, and camera imports.
Gallery also works from the file picking dialog . This makes it easy to insert attachments, build PowerPoint slides, or craft social media posts.
A new button, called Add Phone Photos, is in the command bar. Use it to make your PC ready to show photos from your phone in Gallery. When you select this button, a URL appears that has a QR code that you can scan with your phone to get started.
New! This update adds native support for reading additional archive file formats using the libarchive open-source project , such as:
Note This features does not support password encrypted files.

Install this update
If you want to remove the LCU
To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages .

The best means that these restaurants are in high demand, their summer verandahs are packed, ladies sitting at the tables are hot and cars parked at their entrances are high class! Welcome to Moscow during one of the steepest economic downturns.
Feel free to jump to the desired section:

Erwin is a seafood restaurant that occupies 2 floors of the building located at the bank of the Moscow River. That’s just steps away from the Radisson Royal Hotel. Erwin has 230 seats inside plus a large summer verandah making it possible to seat almost 400 guests during summer months.
They use local seafood products to prepare most of the dishes you'll find on the restaurant's menu. That's the main reason why a meal at Erwin can fit almost any budget. You can order a portion of local whitefish fillet for 580 Rubles or you can go with the King Crab from Murmansk that costs 9000 a piece. I can tell you that it’s a pretty big crab weighting almost 3 kilos (about 6 pounds)!
Same thing with the drinks. You can order a bottle of some Spanish red wine for 3600 Rubles (about $100) or 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova for 15600 Rubles (about $260).
Other dishes on the menu worth mentioning are all kinds of tartars and salads, seafood pastas, Russian and Pan Asian fish soups, several kinds of caviar.

B&B Burgers
The first B&B Burgers restaurant was opened in 2014. Later it has managed to expand into a chain that currently operates 12 restaurants in Moscow. The menu of B&B Burgers includes 9 kinds of burgers, ribs and several kinds of sandwiches. All burgers are priced at 380 Rubles (about 6usd). Double burgers will cost you additional 150 rubles (about 2usd).

At the moment there are 8 Farsh restaurants in Moscow. The anchor restaurant is located near The St. Regis hotel on Nikolskata street. All of the items on their menu are made from local products. Classic cheese burgers cost 250 Rubles (about 4usd). The menu also includes several kinds of craft beer.

That’s actually the only restaurant in Moscow and in the whole Russia that has managed to appear in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 3 years in a row. It is listed on the 23rd position after the Quintonil restaurant located in Mexico City and Amber in Honk Kong.
White Rabbit is known for its signature cuisine that is focused around classic European dishes with a slight Russian touch. They serve traditional Russian borscht soup with “baked beans, fried crucians and sour cream”. They have cutlets made of boar meat served with “puree of celery root and rowan jelly”. Most of the menu items look interesting and delicious.
The restaurant is located in the center of Moscow on the 16th floor of Smolensky Passage department store. This makes it a great observation point of the city.

It also occupies one of the best central locations in the city - opposite Red Square inside the 5 start National Hotel. Its menu has lots of Russian dishes that include pelmeni, caviar, borscht, blini and ukha.
The main difference between the two restaurants is interior design. Dr. Zhivago’s interiors are really bright and meant to resemble Soviet era. Inside there are lots of white and red colors. The waiters have red stars printed on their uniforms.
