Seating details

General presentation.

There are 77 Boeing B737-800s in the American Airlines fleet of 683 planes. This plane has a total seating capacity of 148 passengers in a two class layout and cruises at a speed of 520mph at an altitude of 35000ft. There are 12 channels of audio entertainment on this plane. In Economy, if you don’t have your own, you would have to buy headphones for 2$ a piece. There are LCD monitors on the ceiling as well as large projectors throughout the cabin. In Economy, if you don’t have your own, you would have to buy headphones for 2$ a piece. Check the seat map for exact LCD monitor locations. Check the seat map! Your seat may be equipped with a DC power outlet. AA uses a cigarette lighter style outlet delivering 15 volts of current. Usually, a power outlet is available on every seat in First and Business class, as well as selected rows in the Economy cabin. Outlets are located on your seat console, or mounted to the seat frame below your seat cushion. Look for the “lightning bolt” symbol on the overhead bin rows containing powerport-equipped seats.

DC auto/air power adapter cords can be purchased at most electronics stores or through power cord manufacturers. Keep in mind that power adapter cords are device (laptop or DVD) and model specific. Splitter or Y adaptor cords may not be used. Only one device is allowed per outlet. Use of powerports is permitted only when the aircraft is above 10,000 feet in altitude and the flight attendant announces that personal electronic devices are allowed.

American Airlines 737 800 Configuration

The Boeing 737 800 American Airlines seat map shows a 160-passenger cabin ideal for domestic flights. There are two versions of this aircraft with 16 recliner seats for the First class, 30 Main Cabin Extra seats, and 114 regular ones for Economy travel.

Main Cabin Extra seats in the American Airlines 737 800 are towards the front of the cabin. Their occupants will board and deplane first and have up to six inches of additional leg space. Monitors stationed behind seats will entertain the passengers on this airplane, though at the expense of some legroom.

Passengers can listen to music, watch movies, and play games on American Airlines Boeing 737-800 flights. The entertainment monitors or portable devices make that possible. All mobile devices can connect to an in-flight complimentary WiFi service, and passengers can use the internet at an additional cost. In the Boeing 737 800 seat map, American Airlines Economy class seats share 110V AC power outlets, while First class and Main Cabin Extra travelers enjoy personal AC outlets.

Depending on flight duration and time, passengers can expect food service in the American 737 800. The First Class cabin gets choice dining, complimentary beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. The Main Cabin Extra seats get complimentary liquor. They also get snacks like cookies and non-alcoholic drinks like the Main Cabin. Main Cabin passengers may buy liquor, and every passenger can purchase snacks on flights lasting longer than 2 hours and light foods if flying over 3 hours.

Boeing 737 800 Seat Map American Airlines

In the Boeing 737 800, American Airlines’ first-class sections get recliner seats while the Main Cabin Extra and Economy class use standard Boeing seats. There are 16 First class seats, 30 Main Cabin Extra ones, and 114 Economy seats.

First Class

The first 16 seats from the front of the American Boeing 737 800 are the First Class seats. They are arranged in pairs on either side of the fuselage. These seats are labeled 1A to 4F but have no floor storage and sometimes less space in the overhead bin. The last row has no bulkhead.

Main Cabin Extra

In the Boeing 737 800 American Airlines seat map, two Main Cabin Extra sections are split by 30 Main Cabin seats. The Main Cabin Extra seats in the American Airlines 737 800 are from 8A – 10F and 16A – 17F. Seats 10A and 10E are frequently reserved, with an extra fee for booking them. The first half of the Main Cabin Extra is behind the First Class section. The second half is located in an exit row, with seats 15A ‒ F having the best leg space in the cabin.

Looking at the Boeing 737 800 seat map, American Airlines reserved standard seats 11A ‒ 15F and 18A ‒ 33F for the Economy class. Seats 12A and 12F lack windows, while seats 32C, 32D, and the 33rd row are bad seats because they don’t recline far enough and are close to the toilets and galleries.

Seatlink's take

The WestJet Boeing 737-800 features 168 seats in a 2 cabin configuration. Economy has 156 seats in a 3-3 config; Premium economy has 12 seats in a 3-3 config; this is pretty standard for these aircraft. Legroom-wise, the Economy pitch of 79cm 31-33" is average, the Premium economy pitch of 91cm 36" is average, though of course what that means for you depends on how tall you are!

Please note : this particular aircraft features what is commonly referred to as eurobiz (a.k.a. European Business Class), which is commonly found on European carriers. Business class seats are basically just economy seats with the middle seat blocked, sometimes with an extra table occupying the middle seat. Additionally, these planes are designed to be reconfigurable based on flight demand, so can feature as few as 0 rows of business class, up to 12 or more (though typically in the 2-6 range), with a movable curtain marking the division between the two cabins.

Seating details

Took recent flight from Vancouver to Lihue in the Plus section seat 2A. Pleasantly surprised that they have upgraded their seats to the new premium wide seats with the 2x2 configuration. Much better than the “blocked seat”.

This is an AWFUL seat. Very uncomfortable because of the solid wall beside it. I was told there was a window. THERE IS NO WINDOW. It's dark. If you value a flight with a bit of comfort don't book this seat!!!!

Seat unusually narrow. There is an electrical box in the footwell that significantly reduces the under-seat space.

BEWARE! All aisle seats have some sort of box strapped underneath, making them too narrow for a "standard" undersea bag. Had to toss mine in the overhead. Wish the airlines would find somewhere else to nail these things. Also, throughout the entire plane, the USB plugs were hit or miss for functionality. First, you have to find them (they're above the electrical outlet, at a jaunty angle that prevents most of us from seeing them), then hope that it isn't broken. In most cases, there may be one functioning USB port for 3 seats. Bring an adapter for the electrical outlets!

The flight was slightly late but was a very good flight. Flight attendants were pleasant and the flight was smooth. I was in the middle seat and paid extra for the seat because I am slightly disabled and I am allowed to board early. All in all a good flight and I was pleased with the whole experience. I do miss the seatback TV.

The flight was good and on time. The staff were very helpfull and the food that we ordered was pretty good. The plane was comfortable and we usually fly Westjet and have never been disappointed.

I was on the flight for 4 hours and the seats was awesome. Leg room was to "die for". I'm a larger individual so the wider seat was a bonus.

There was a lot more legroom then I was expecting for this seat. It actually made the middle seat more comfortable for me and I'm 6'2"!!

Seat pitch was great BUT passengers began lining up less than 1 hour after take off for front toilet. Flight attendant made them stay behind 3rd row because she was serving "plus" passengers. For the entire duration of the flight I was constantly bumped and hit by people going to the toilet. I do not recommend this seat for any flight more than an hour!

there is also no right arm rest. I didn't think i would miss having a right arm rest, until i didn't have one for that flight.

Smooth flight and friendly service overall. The seats were comfortable and have enough space underneath at feet for a large carryon bag and a small purse/ personal belonging. Great window seat. No screens on the back of seats but they did offer in-flight entertainment we could access on our devices.

This review is for the new 737-800 Max. This is a great aeroplane. The entire appearance of the 'plane is improved, the windows are larger and the 'plane seemed quieter. Seat 20C had plenty of leg room for me (5' 10") - my knees were 6" from the seat in front. I found it quite comfortable even though the seats are all thinner nowadays.

The window seats in exit rows 13 and 14 don't have a armrest on the window side. Annoying when you're paying, $40+ dollars for the seat.

Comfortable leather seats. A little nosier because it’s closer toe the engine but overall a great seat on westjet.

There are large hard drives bolted on the seat supports under 2C and 2D. That reduces the legroom for seats 2C and 2-D by about 6 inches and it's very cramped. Not Really what you expect from premium seating. Im so sad I didn't take a picture of it for you.

7A gets 2 windows which is better than one regular window so I would definitely chose this seat again. Doesn't bother me that it is "misaligned". The view is still great if not better !

Typical WestJet - subpar in most if not all areas plus now (like everyone else) they upcharge for every little thing like seat selection, 1st checked bag, air, water, gravity, lift, etc.

The plane was full, and we boarded last, so got to sit in the Plus seats for free. The Plus seat isn't much different than the regular seat. Only that there's a tiny bit more legroom, but since it's bulkhead, there isn't underseat storage, and the tray table is in the armrest. Since it's close to the washroom, there may be lots of people wanting to use it. There were no individual screens on this particular airplane.

This is a great seat. Plenty of leg room as it is the exit row. Well worth the extra money if you are 6' or taller.

DO NOT PAY EXTRA FOR THIS SEAT! We were on the red eye special from Vancouver to Montreal and I paid extra in the hope we may be able to stretch out and get some sleep. You do get extra leg room - granted! But the seats are hard, there is no extra recline AND THE WORST is that the seat in the middle has a permanently fixed 'table' which means you cannot put the armrest up and use it to stretch out over. I feel you have less seat width than in economy!! And they could at least put their arm rest up! Several even managed to get a whole row to themselves and could lie flat!!! There was no way you could do this in the Plus seating even if you had the whole row! Will never fly WestJet again!

Airbus Pulls Further Ahead of Boeing in Global Plane Rivalry

The European aerospace giant said it would deliver 800 planes this year, including its A320neo, which competes with Boeing’s troubled 737 Max. Airbus also announced progress on a new, more fuel-efficient aircraft.

Reporting from Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France

Airbus said Thursday that it would ramp up deliveries this year of some of the world’s most sought-after aircraft, bolstering its position as the largest plane maker and pulling further ahead of Boeing as its U.S. rival focuses on the fallout from a major safety crisis involving its 737 Max line of airliners.

Airbus, the European aerospace giant, plans to deliver around 800 jets to customers this year, including the popular single-aisle A320neo, its main competitor to the 737 Max. It delivered 735 planes last year, more than it had originally targeted. This year’s push is intended to meet what Guillaume Faury, the plane maker’s chief executive, said was a sharp recovery in demand for air travel after pandemic lockdowns.

Airbus pulled in a record 2,094 commercial aircraft orders last year, partly on a surge in demand for narrow-body and midsize jets from India and other rapidly growing countries. That added to the company’s extensive backlog of 8,598 commercial aircraft at the end of 2023.

By contrast, Boeing delivered 528 commercial airplanes and recorded 1,576 net orders.

Airbus has also started work on preparing a successor for the best-selling A320neo, Mr. Faury announced. The new plane would be more fuel-efficientand would take to the skies by the mid- to late 2030s.

The development of that plane, known as the Next Generation Single Aisle, would put Airbus further ahead of Boeing in terms of cutting-edge technology aircraft. The plane is intended to burn around 20 percent less fuel per seat and be made entirely with sustainable or synthetic materials. Analysts said Boeing may not have the war chest to advance with new plane development as it prioritizes dealing with its quality control crisis.

Airbus reported adjusted earnings of 5.8 billion euros ($6.2 billion) in 2023, a small increase from the previous year, on revenue of more than €65 billion. The company added a special dividend, on top of its usual payout, as its net cash exceeded €10 billion.

The company’s profit was dented by a large write-down in its space business, which Mr. Faury said Airbus was working to turn around.

But in its core commercial jet business, where Airbus and Boeing make the bulk of the world’s airliners, the European manufacturer is extending its lead.

To the extent that Airbus has problems, it is in meeting the challenge of producing the thousands of jets that its customers have ordered on a faster scale. Mr. Faury said he had seen significant interest from airlines worldwide. But supply chain issues have made it harder to keep up with demand, a quandary for the company as Boeing’s missteps have opened new opportunities.

To that end, Mr. Faury said, Airbus is sticking with plans to elevate production of the A320neo to 75 jets a month in 2026, though probably not more than that for several years after.

Boeing had planned to increase production of its 737 model to 50 planes per month by around 2025. But the U.S. company suspended its forecasts last month, as it addresses quality control issues highlighted by an incident in early January in which a door panel blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 plane shortly after takeoff.

That episode has rocked Airbus’s chief rival, sparking a U.S. federal investigation and forcing Boeing’s chief executive, Dave Calhoun, to focus on reassuring customers, regulators and the public that the company is prioritizing safety over profits.

The crisis has slowed Boeing’s capacity to produce more of its 737 Max jets. The Federal Aviation Administration announced it would limit Boeing’s ability to increase production of all 737 Max planes until the company proved that it had resolved its quality control issues.

Airbus’s headquarters complex just outside Toulouse, in southwestern France, is a testament to how rapidly the company continues to grow. Airbus opened a new assembly line in Toulouse last summer to support development of the A321neo. And it recently cut the ribbon on a sleek new welcome center for its customers, to prepare for a rush of deliveries in the years to come.

On Wednesday, as Mr. Faury and Airbus executives put the finishing touches on the company’s earnings announcement, two newly finished Air India A320neo jets, their tails emblazoned with the carrier’s yellow sun logo, were parked at the new delivery center. Other planes, destined for IndiGo and British Airways, were also ready for delivery.

“We are delivering more, and we’ll continue to deliver more,” said Jill Lawrie, the head of Airbus’s customer experience team, speaking on the panoramic terrace of the new building, where a cavernous hangar that used to make the mammoth A380 superjumbo had been converted to make the A321neo instead. “We’re growing and need to be more efficient and create higher capacity to deliver our planes.”

At a news conference on Thursday, Mr. Faury emphasized the need to prioritize quality and safety over quantity, even as the company is working to ramp up production.

“It cannot be quantity over quality,” Mr. Faury said. “We don’t want to deliver a number of planes. We want to deliver a number of planes that are of high quality and safe.”

Mr. Faury emphasized that the company had a strong culture of risk management that included extensive training programs for employees and people coming “not just to learn facts and figures” but also safety.

Analysts pointed to pandemic-era policies as supporting that culture.

When the pandemic caused a deep downturn in the aerospace industry, Airbus kept most of its employees on partly paid furlough , reflecting a policy put in place around Europe to avoid a rise in unemployment and to help companies retain seasoned, longtime employees rather than losing them. By contrast, Boeing laid off employees and worked to rehire once business conditions improved.

To maintain quality and safety controls, “the way to do it is to constantly challenge yourself,” Mr. Faury said, “to be afraid of what could happen, and think always of what could go wrong.”
