With regards to funding, the main sources of funding for a juice bar are personal savings, credit cards, bank loans and angel investors. With regards to bank loans, banks will want to review your business plan and gain confidence that you will be able to repay your loan and interest. To acquire this confidence, the loan officer will not only want to confirm that your financials are reasonable. But they will want to see a professional plan. Such a plan will give them the confidence that you can successfully and professionally operate a business.

The second most common form of funding for a juice bar is angel investors . Angel investors are wealthy individuals who will write you a check. The goal of your Executive Summary is to quickly engage the reader. Explain to them the type of juice bar you are operating and the status; for example, are you a startup, do you have a juice bar that you would like to grow, or are you operating a chain of juice bars.

Next, provide an overview of each of the subsequent sections of your plan. For example, give a brief overview of the juice bar industry. Discuss the type of juice bar you are operating. Detail your direct competitors. Give an overview of your target customers. Provide a snapshot of your marketing plan. Identify the key members of your team. And offer an overview of your financial plan.

Company Analysis

In your company analysis, you will detail the type of juice bar you are operating.

For example, you might operate one of the following types:

  • Take-Out or Drive Through : this type of juice bar doesn’t have seating and is mostly visited by customers looking to grab a juice on their way to the gym or elsewhere.
  • Café : this type of juice bar typically has a more formal setting and will serve juice, smoothies, and some food items such as fruit bowls.

The third reason for market research is to prove to readers that you are an expert in your industry. By conducting the research and presenting it in your plan, you achieve just that.

  • Is the market declining or increasing?
  • Who are the key competitors in the market?

Customer Analysis

Indirect competitors are other options that customers have to purchase from that aren’t direct competitors. This includes restaurants, supermarkets and customers making juice themselves at home. You need to mention such competition to show you understand that not everyone who drinks juice or smoothies frequents a juice bar each day.

With regards to direct competition, you want to detail the other juice bars with which you compete. Most likely, your direct competitors will be juice bars located very close to your location.

For each such competitor, provide an overview of their businesses and document their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you once worked at your competitors’ businesses, it will be impossible to know everything about them. But you should be able to find out key things about them such as:

  • What types of customers do they serve?
  • What products do they offer?
  • What is their pricing (premium, low, etc.)?
  • What are they good at?
  • What are their weaknesses?

With regards to the last two questions, think about your answers from the customers’ perspective. And don’t be afraid to stand outside your competitors’ locations and ask customers as they leave what they like most and least about them.

The final part of your competitive analysis section is to document your areas of competitive advantage. For example:

  • Will you provide superior juice/smoothie products?
  • Will you provide products that your competitors don’t offer?
  • Will you make it easier or faster for customers to acquire your products?
  • Will you provide better customer service?
  • Will you offer better pricing?

Think about ways you will outperform your competition and document them in this section of your plan.

Marketing Plan

Product : in the product section you should reiterate the type of juice bar that you documented in your Company Analysis. Then, detail the specific products you will be offering. For example, will you offer items such as protein drinks or acai bowls? Will you offer fresh baked goods? Will you offer packaged food items for sale (e.g., protein bars, cookies)? Will you offer smoothies, fresh squeezed juices or both)? Etc.

Price : Document the prices you will offer and how they compare to your competitors. Essentially in the product and price sub-sections of your marketing plan, you are presenting the menu items you offer and their prices.

Place : Place refers to the location of your juice bar. Document your location and mention how the location will impact your success. For example, is your juice bar located next to a heavily populated office building, or gym, etc. Discuss how your location might provide a steady stream of customers. Also, if you operate or plan to operate kiosks, detail the locations where the kiosks will be placed.

Promotions : the final part of your juice bar marketing plan is the promotions section. Here you will document how you will drive customers to your location(s). The following are some promotional methods you might consider:

  • Making your juice bar’s storefront extra appealing to attract passing customers
  • Distributing juice samples outside the juice bar
  • Advertising in local papers and magazines
  • Reaching out to local bloggers and websites
  • Social media marketing
  • Partnerships with local organizations (e.g., gym members get a free shot of wheatgrass with their purchase)
  • Local radio advertising
  • Banner ads at local venues

Operations Plan

While the earlier sections of your business plan explained your goals, your operations plan describes how you will meet them. Your operations plan should have two distinct sections as follows.

Everyday short-term processes include all of the tasks involved in running your juice bar such as training employees, serving customers, procuring supplies, keeping the store clean, etc.

Long-term goals are the milestones you hope to achieve. These could include the dates when you expect to serve your 1,000th customer, or when you hope to reach $X in sales. It could also be when you expect to hire your Xth employee or launch a new location.

Management Team

To demonstrate your juice bar’s ability to succeed as a business, a strong management team is essential. Highlight your key players’ backgrounds, emphasizing those skills and experiences that prove their ability to grow a company.

Ideally you and/or your team members have direct experience in the juice bar business. If so, highlight this experience and expertise. But also highlight any experience that you think will help your business succeed.

If your team is lacking, consider assembling an advisory board. An advisory board would include 2 to 8 individuals who would act like mentors to your business. They would help answer questions and provide strategic guidance. If needed, look for advisory board members with experience in juice bars and/or successfully running retail and small businesses.

Financial Plan

Income Statement : an income statement is more commonly called a Profit and Loss statement or P&L. It shows your revenues and then subtracts your costs to show whether you turned a profit or not.

In developing your income statement, you need to devise assumptions. For example, will you serve 100 customers per day or 200? And will sales grow by 2% or 10% per year? As you can imagine, your choice of assumptions will greatly impact the financial forecasts for your business. As much as possible, conduct research to try to root your assumptions in reality.

Balance Sheets : While balance sheets include much information, to simplify them to the key items you need to know about, balance sheets show your assets and liabilities. For instance, if you spend $100,000 on building out your juice bar, that will not give you immediate profits. Rather it is an asset that will hopefully help you generate profits for years to come. Likewise, if a bank writes you a check for $100.000, you don’t need to pay it back immediately. Rather, that is a liability you will pay back over time.

Cash Flow Statement : Your cash flow statement will help determine how much money you need to start or grow your business, and make sure you never run out of money. What most entrepreneurs and business owners don’t realize is that you can turn a profit but run out of money and go bankrupt.

In developing your Income Statement and Balance Sheets be sure to include several of the key costs needed in starting or growing a juice bar:

  • Location build-out including design fees, construction, etc.
  • Cost of equipment like blenders, refrigerators, etc.
  • Cost of fixtures like tables, chairs, a menu board, etc.
  • Cost of ingredients and maintaining an adequate amount of supplies
  • Payroll or salaries paid to staff
  • Business insurance
  • Taxes and permits
  • Legal expenses

Attach your full financial projections in the appendix of your plan along with any supporting documents that make your plan more compelling. For example, you might include your store design blueprint or location lease.

Introduction: Mango juice has always been considered as a delicious, nutritious popular drink, but processed juice may not always be safe due to chemical and microbial risks. Determination of physicochemical and microbiological qualities of some packed mango juices of Bangladesh will help consumers to know the present scenario. Material and Methods: Six commercially available different juice samples were collected from the market. Carbohydrate profiles were determined using HPLC, crude protein content was calculated using the Kjeldahl method and other parameters were determined by standard AOAC methods. Standard culture techniques were followed to assess the total viable count (TVC), E. coli and other fecal coliforms. Results: The highest quantity of monosaccharide (58.88%) was recorded in the AC1ME5 brand, while the lowest in Homemade (5.648%) and MN1GL2 (9.867%). The maximum content of acidity recorded was 0.24% and minimum 0.21%. The TSS content of all samples varied from 19% to 12%. The highest quantity 6.87% and the lowest 3.62% of reducing sugar were recorded. Most of the mango juices were low in protein and very low/negligible in fat content. Total viable count of different types of fruit juices varied from 1×10 3-3×10 3 CFU/ml. No significant amount of E. coli and fecal coliform was detected. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the locally available mango juices contain a safe level of nutritional and microbial elements for human consumption, but not highly satisfactory.

In this study, the vitamin, nutrient, antinutrient and heavy metal concentrations in Powdered mango fruit juices (sachet brands) (PMFJ), Liquid mango fruit juices (LMFJ), and Fresh or raw mango fruits juices (FMFJ) were assessed toward establishing a tradeoff between their health benefits and potential health risk on consumption. The analysis show the concentration of vitamin C constituting 50-70% and Vitamin A 30-40% by composition relative to other vitamins. The highest concentration of vitamin A and C were observed in the PMFJ, and the LMFJ samples. Relative to the bioavailability of vitamin E, K, B1, B2, B6 and B12, FMFJ contains the highest concentrations compared to PMFJ and LMFJ. The results further show the highest concentration of 0.79 mg/100 g and 6.85 mg/100 g of oxalate and phytate in the FMFJ. Comparative nutrient composition was carried out on five local varieties of mango pulp commonly consumed in Wudil town Kano state. The moisture content of the pulp range from 79% for Peter mango (Binta sugar)to 84% for Golden nugget(Kayan rago), ash range from 0.05% for Sheri mango (Yar-kamaru)to 0.49% for Julie mango (Mai-simunti); proteins range from 0.3 1% to 1.25% for Normal mango (Tawarri)and Peter mango (Binta sugar).The fat contentof the pulp range from 0.6% for Golden nugget mango (Kayan rago) and Peter mango (Binta sugar)to 1.0% for Normal mango (Tawarri),while carbohydrate content was found to range from 14.06% to 18.74% for Golden nugget mango (kayan rago)and Peter mango(Binta sugar)respectively. The elemental analysis revealed that, among the varieties used, high potassium content was found in the pulp from Sheri mango (Yar kamaru)(62.2±0.01mg/100g). The pulp from Golden nugget (Kayan rago)and Normal mango (Tawarri)were found to contain more magnesium(1.2±0.01 mg/100g) than that from other source used but pulp from Peter mango (Binta sugar)and Julie mango (Mai-sumunti)contain high amount of iron (1.40±0.00 mg/100g) and likewise highestcalcium content was found in the pulp of Julie mango (Mai-sumunti)respectively. Vitamin C content was found to be high in Julie mango (Mai sumunti)(26.4mg/100g) while beta-carotene was high in pulp from Peter mango (Binta sugar). Therefore among these local varieties of mango pulp, Peter mango (Binta sugar)was found to be more nutritious due to the high content of protein and carbohydrate.

Mango thrives well in tropical and subtropical climates. The ideal temperature for the crop ranges from 24° to 30° C along with high humidity. Temperature below 10° C and above 42° C retards growth and adversely affects the flowering time of mango. A cool and dry period, which slows or stops the growth, is essential for flower induction.

Most of the mango varieties thrive in places with good rainfall (75 to 375 cm per annum) and dry seasons. However, the distribution of rainfall is more important than its amount.  Rainfall during the flowering period adversely affects the fruit set. Fog and cloudy weather at the time of flowering from November to February also result in the poor setting of fruits and favors pest attack and diseases.

Suitable Soil For Mango Farming

Mango grows well on a wide variety of soils, such as lateritic, alluvial, sandy loam, and sandy. Although it grows very well in high to medium-fertility soils. Even you can grow successfully in low-fertility soils with appropriate management, especially during the early stages of growth.

However, you must avoid very poor and stony soils on the hill. The loamy, alluvial, well-drained, aerated, and deep soils rich in organic matter are perfect for mango cultivation. In addition, mango prefers a pH range of 5.5 to 7.5. The extremely sandy, shallow, rocky, water-logged, heavily textured, and alkaline or calcareous soils are not suitable for mango cultivation.

Basic Cultivation Steps for Mango Farming

Sterilize the soil by both physical and chemical means. Physical control measures include treatments with steam and solar energy. Chemical control methods include treatments with herbicides and fumigants. During soil solarization, the incoming solar radiation penetrates the transparent plastic film.

It helps to absorb the soil. The absorbed radiation converts into heat energy, which raises the soil temperature and kills many soil-borne organisms including plant pathogens and pests.

2. Propagation

You can use random seedling rootstocks for propagation. However, you can adopt various methods in the vegetative propagation of mango. Inarching, veneer grafting, budding, stone epicotyl grafting, and softwood grafting are common methods.

3. Planting

Spacing varies from 10 m x 10 m, in the dry zones where growth is less, to 12 m x 12 m, in heavy rainfall areas and rich soils where abundant vegetative growth occurs. However, you can plant new dwarf hybrids like Amrapali at closer spacing.

In addition, you must fill the pits with original soil mixed with 20-25 kg well-rotten FYM, 2.5 kg single superphosphate, and 1 kg MOP. You must give irrigation immediately after planting. In the initial one or two years, it is advisable to provide some shade to the young plants and also stake to make them grow straight.

4. Training & Pruning

Normally, mango trees require very less or no pruning. However, the training of the plants in the initial stages is essential to give them the proper shape. Especially when the graft has branched too low, the process of training becomes very important.

5. Irrigation

The amount and frequency of irrigation depend on the type of soil, prevailing climatic conditions, rainfall, and distribution, and age of trees. Never irrigate during the monsoon months unless there are long spells of drought. During the first year when the plants are very young with a shallow root system, you must irrigate every 2-3 days in the dry season.

6. Manuring

Nutrient uptake in mango is from the large volume of soil. Therefore, it is able to sustain growth even in low-fertility soils. But, its efficient management involves the replenishment of the nutrients used up by the tree for its growth and maintenance, harvested produce, and natural losses from soils through leaching and runoff.

7. Inter Cropping

You can grow intercrops such as vegetables, legumes, short-duration, and dwarf fruit crops like papaya, guava , peach, plum, etc. However, you must depend on the agro-climatic factors of the region. You must take care of the water and nutrient requirements of the intercrops separately.

8. Rejuvenation

In general, 40-45 years old mango trees exhibit a decline in fruit yield because of the dense and overcrowded canopy. The trees do not get proper sunlight resulting in decreased production of shoots. However, you can convert these unproductive trees into productive ones by pruning the developed techniques.

9. Plant Protection

Mango suffers from several diseases at all stages of its life. All the parts of the plant, namely, the trunk, branch, twig, leaf, petiole, flower, and fruit are attacked by a number of pathogens including fungi, bacteria, and algae. They cause several kinds of rot, dieback, anthracnose, scab, necrosis, blotch, spots, mildew, etc. Some of these diseases like powdery mildew are of great economic importance as they cause heavy losses in mango production. Therefore, you must adopt the right management system.

10. Harvesting & Yield In Mango Farming

You can expect an average yield of 150-225 marketable fruits (50 kg) per plant per year. You can harvest mature green fruits with 8-10 mm long stalks to prevent sap burn and undesired spots on the ripened fruits.

However, you can decide maturity in mango fruit is the color of the pulp, which turns cream to light yellow on maturity and hardening of stone.

After harvesting the mango fruits are graded according to their size, weight, color, and maturity. Therefore, you can pack the fruits in corrugated fiberboard (CFB) boxes.
