What is a business phone plan?

Is it worth getting a business mobile plan, how do i compare business phone plans, what is the best business mobile plan in australia, telstra business mobile plans, optus business mobile plans, vodafone business phone plans.

Why compare mobile plans with Finder?

We don't charge extra. Prices shown on Finder are the same as those you get directly from mobile plan providers.

We regularly work with providers to deliver amazing exclusive offers you won't find anywhere else.

We have a team dedicated to monitoring mobile plan prices and keeping deals updated daily.

Business phone plans are designed for businesses to give to their employees, so they can keep in touch with clients and co-workers.

If you're running a business with multiple employees that need work numbers, it makes sense to look at getting a business mobile plan to make it easier for organisational or tax purposes.

They have different inclusions to personal mobile plans because people tend to use their phones differently for business than they would for recreation.

Business plans are also designed for lots of employees to share inclusions.

They also often have better access to support , because the consequences of a business phone being down are much harsher than that of a personal phone.

  • Keep in mind: SME's and larger enterprises reap the most rewards with a business mobile plan. Business phone plans won't really benefit sole traders (depending on how you handle tax).

Depending on the size of your business, a mobile plan specifically designed for work may or may not benefit your organisation.

  • Designed specifically for business. Many also allow you to tailor the plans specifically to suit your business needs. For example, if you need international call inclusions to keep in touch with international clients, or have multiple employees who can share a data pool.
  • Lots of options available. Businesses come in so many different flavours – a cheese factory and game development studio would have vastly different calling and data needs, so providers have plenty of options to make sure you get the right plan.
  • Extra value. Because most businesses are signing up for a bunch of mobile plans at once, providers will often kick in extra perks like international call inclusions, or discounts.
  • Cost and contracts. These plans tend to be more expensive than regular mobile plans and often have long contracts. Think carefully about whether a business plan or a regular account with multiple personal plans is better for you.

Note for sole traders:

You don't need to have a business phone plan to be able to claim your phone on tax . You can claim the portion you use for business on a regular, personal phone plan. This will be the most cost-effective choice for most sole traders who only have 1 phone.

There are a lot of options in the business mobile world, and your needs will be different from other businesses. Here are some things to consider besides the cost of your plan.

busines support icon

Business support

This is the main thing business plans offer over personal ones. If this is something that's important to you, make sure you're being offered tech support and personalised service in the way you prefer.

network coverage icon

Network coverage

Telstra covers the most places in Australia, so if your business will take your employees out into rural and regional areas, a plan on the Telstra network may be worth the extra dollars it costs.

flexibility icon

Flexibility

What you need this quarter might not be the same as what you need next quarter. In many businesses, being able to reduce costs quickly can be vital. While all providers will let you add plans and upgrade to more expensive ones with more inclusions, make sure the one you choose will also let you move down to a cheaper plan and even remove plans in case of tough times.

mobile device icon

Do you already have devices you can give to your employees? The major providers will often have device bundles available to sign up to which can be convenient, but could you get a better discount on bulk phones elsewhere?

mobile data icon

How much data do you really need? Consider whether a large data pool shared amongst employees is a good option, or if you'd rather each employee has their own set amount of data each month.

As each business is so wildly different from the next, it's impossible to pick a mobile plan that will best suit every business.

Many businesses may prefer to sign up to a larger, more established provider, but that's not to say you won't get excellent service and cheaper prices from smaller providers too.

We've broken down the main offerings from the 3 largest business mobile providers in Australia to give you a taste of what's on offer.

Telstra logo

Telstra's business phone plans operate in the same sizes as its general consumer plans, with Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large plans. All include:

  • Data, from 40GB–180GB
  • Data sharing between plans on the 1 account
  • Unlimited standard national calls and texts
  • Medium and above plans include the 5G network
  • No excess data charges in Australia
  • The option to add a phone to each plan for an added monthly cost spread over 24–36 months
  • Good to know: To get the right mix of plans for your business, Telstra encourages you to book an appointment with one of the company's dedicated small business experts.

  • Compare Clear

Optus logo

Optus offers a huge range of plans to suit every kind of business with 1–300 plans able to be put on the same account and share data.

  • Good to know: Companies that require 10+ SIMs are encouraged to talk to an account manager to tailor data allowances, monthly rates and device inclusions to suit their business.

Here are the details of the plans available to every business without negotiation:

  • Plans start from $50 month-to-month or $47.50 on a 24-month plan or $45 on a 36-month plan – prices get cheaper the more SIMs you're after
  • 50GB of data, which accumulates and pools with other phones on the same account
  • Unlimited standard talk and text
  • Unlimited international talk and text to selected countries
  • Multiple service discount for total number of Business Mobile Plus services on the 1 plan, starting at 10% for 2, and up to 34% for 12+
  • Option to add $10 roaming packs for business trips

For businesses that need 6+ plans with devices, there are Tech Fund plans. These plans include:

  • Device credits from $300–$1,800, depending on the plan and length of contract
  • Up to 10GB of included international roaming data each month
  • Data ranging from 6GB–200GB (which is pooled)
  • The option to blend different plans on the 1 account (such as cheaper plans with no roaming for local sales reps, and plans with 10GB roaming inclusions for regional managers)

You can see Optus business plans here

Vodafone logo

Vodafone offers the most affordable plans of the big 3 telcos, along with including some added features.

  • Good to know: If your employees need to travel overseas, the $5 a day roaming add on will allow them to keep the same number without breaking the budget.

Vodafone has 3 types of business plans:

  • Team plans. These allow data sharing between employees, and you can add a phone onto the individual plans. This is for when you have fewer than 10 services on the 1 account.
  • SIM only Business Flex mobile plans. Best for teams of 10+, which includes the use of a personal account manager.
  • Tech Fund Business Flex plans. These include credit towards buying handsets, as well as the use of a personal account manager.

finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles

We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.

Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.

How we make money

We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.

Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.

Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money .

Sorting and Ranking Products

When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. Canstar Blue

Australia’s Best-Rated Business Mobile Plan Providers

See Our Ratings Methodology .

mobile business plans australia

Most Satisfied Customers | Vodafone

Vodafone is our winner for the 2023 mobile plan provider ratings, with an impressive five-star score across most categories, including customer satisfaction, value for money, client service, billing and plan flexibility, while it scored four stars for network coverage.

mobile business plans australia

How we rate business mobile plan providers

Our ratings compare mobile phone plan providers offering business plans, based on customer satisfaction as rated by Australians.

How many Australians do we survey for our ratings?

Canstar Blue surveyed 580 Australians with a current business mobile plan service for their feedback on mobile plan providers they’ve been signed up to. Respondents had to have a current mobile phone plan for a business and that business pays the bills.

  • The outcomes reported in these ratings are measured via accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics .

What criteria are used to rate business mobile plan providers?

Survey respondents are asked to rate their satisfaction with their business mobile phone plan provider from zero to 10 , with zero meaning extremely dissatisfied and 10 meaning extremely satisfied. Business mobile plan provider satisfaction is rated on the following criteria:

  • Overall satisfaction: measures consumer satisfaction with a mobile plan provider as an individual score, NOT the combined total of all criteria.
  • Value for money: the price paid for the mobile phone plan was reasonable for the service experienced.
  • Network coverage: the mobile network offered good and reliable coverage.
  • Client service: the mobile plan provider offered good service and support, and was easy to get in touch with.
  • Billing: the mobile plan billing was clear and easy to understand and pay.
  • Plan flexibility: the mobile plan provider offered a reasonable amount of plan flexibility.

How do we determine the winner?

The winning brand is the brand that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating . All the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are then combined and averaged to determine the overall winner.

  • Overall satisfaction is asked as a specific question and represents an individual measure, not a combined total of all criteria.
  • The brand with the highest number of five-star ratings within the supporting criteria will become the five-star recipient in overall satisfaction, and therefore win the award. If a clear leading brand still cannot be determined from the supporting criteria, joint winners will be declared.

Which business mobile plan providers do we rate?

To qualify in the ratings results, providers must have received a minimum of 30 responses to be included. Therefore, not all mobile phone plan providers offering business services will be compared in this survey. Providers rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

Best business mobile plan providers

1. vodafone, ratings result.

Vodafone came out on top for the second year in a row, scoring five stars for overall satisfaction. It also scored five stars for value for money, client service, billing and plan flexibility, while it scored four stars for network coverage.

Editor’s notes

Vodafone offers the option of SIM-only plans or plans that can be bundled with a device. All that you need to do is supply your ABN/ACN on sign up, or link it to an existing Vodafone mobile plan account, with additional business plans also able be added.

Telstra took out second place with four stars for overall satisfaction, value for money, client service, billing and plan flexibility, while it scored five stars for network coverage.

Telstra offers a range of SIM-only plans or plans with a phone, with the option to bundle services onto the one plan. Its plans and device selection are essentially the same offerings as what you’ll get if you sign up to a non-business plan. If you bundle a phone with a plan, you’ll choose from a 12, 24 or 36-month device repayment period.

Ratings results

Rounding out our ratings in third is Optus with three stars for overall satisfaction and billing, while it scored four stars in the remaining categories — value for money, network coverage, client service and plan flexibility.

Optus offer a range of options for its business phone plans. While you can pick a similar selection of SIM-only plans and devices to its non-business phone plans, Optus does offer McAfee protection on up to 20 devices on its Business Choice Plus plans. Optus also offers a ‘team plan’ which includes four SIM plans with data to share and flexibility, along with the option to add on additional SIMs for an extra cost per SIM.

Other business phone plan providers

Apart from the above-mentioned providers, there are several other telcos also offering phone plans for businesses, although many of these providers might only offer SIM-only plans and no handsets for bundling. These telcos include:

  • Aussie Broadband
  • Southern Phone

Choosing a phone plan provider

Access to a phone and/or phone plan for work can be an essential part of a business. Of those surveyed, 27% provide employees with a mobile phone for work use and 33% upgrade handsets every one to two years.

Despite several providers offering mobile phone services to businesses, 50% of respondents have always been with the same business phone service provider. A big reason for this could be that almost a third of respondents (31%) believe the provider offers good value, while 26% believe their provider offers the best coverage or is the only provider with coverage in the area.

When choosing a provider for your business mobile phone services, there can be a lot to consider. 17% of survey respondents claimed that they don’t find the time to compare other offers and switch providers, so it might seem like a lot to think about on top of operating a business.

However, when you break it down to a few points, comparing business mobile phone plans might be more simple than you think.

Phone with a plan or SIM-only

The first thing to consider is whether you’ll need phones bundled with a phone plan — such as an iPhone or Samsung phone — or if you simply need the phone plan on its own. If you need handsets with a plan, your provider choices will mostly be limited to the big three telcos (Telstra, Optus and Vodafone).

If you just need the SIM cards with a phone plan, then you have a wider range of options to choose from.

Additional extras

Some providers will offer business-related extras such as the ability to bundle multiple services, data sharing across plans, device security software and more. If these extras are important to you, you can then compare providers to see what is available and which telco will offer the best value for you.

How much mobile data you need for your plans is pretty important. Consider what your team will be using their phone plans for — such as working on the go, accessing emails, video conferencing, making calls, etc — will help determine whether you need a plan with lots of data or not. If phones will be used primarily for making and receiving calls and accessing emails, a smaller amount of data, or a data-sharing plan, might work best. Otherwise you’ll need bigger data plans for working on the go and video conferencing.

Mobile coverage

Of course, for some workers, a phone plan can be essential when travelling for work. If your team frequently needs to travel, especially to regional and remote areas, ensuring your choice of provider has good mobile network coverage in that area is essential.

While the Telstra, Optus and Vodafone networks all offer coverage to the majority of the country, it’s worth checking the mobile coverage map before signing up to a provider to ensure that the areas your team will be working from are covered by the mobile network.

Frequently asked questions

About this research.

Canstar Blue surveyed 2,022 Australian small business owners and key decision makers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction, via ISO 26362 accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group whose business currently pays for a mobile phone plan that is used for business purposes– in this case, 580 people.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then by mean overall satisfaction. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.

What is a business mobile plan?

A business mobile plan is a mobile phone plan that is specifically designed for businesses of various sizes. They are used by staff to stay connected with each other and with customers, to access work-related information and to work remotely. Business mobile plans typically offer features tailored for business use, which may include:

  • Multiple lines:  this allows businesses to easily manage mobile service for multiple employees under a single account.
  • Shared data pools:  this allows businesses to optimise data usage across the organisation and save money on unnecessary expenses.
  • Customer support:  business mobile plans typically offer prioritised customer support, so businesses can get help quickly when they need it.
  • Mobile device management (MDM):  this allows businesses to remotely manage and secure their mobile devices.
  • Discounts for volume:  businesses with multiple lines can often get discounts on their mobile service.
  • Flexible plans:  business mobile plans are often more flexible than personal plans, allowing businesses to customise their plan to meet their specific needs.
  • Additional features:  some business mobile plans offer features such as dedicated customer service lines, mobile hotspot access and international calling.

What are the benefits of business mobile plans?

There are a number of benefits to having a business mobile plan, including:

  • Increased productivity: business mobile plans can help employees to be more productive by giving them the tools and resources they need to work on the go.
  • Cost effective: business mobile plans bundled services, shared data allowances and special rates for business use, helping to keep mobile bills down.
  • Customisation options: business mobile plans can offer the flexibility to choose the features that best suit a company’s specific needs, such as international calling options, data add-ons, and more.
  • Improved customer service: business mobile plans can help businesses to improve their customer service by giving them the ability to respond to customer inquiries quickly and efficiently, even if they are not in the office.
  • Enhanced security: business mobile plans can help businesses to enhance their security by providing features such as MDM and remote data wipe, helping them protect sensitive business information.

How does a business mobile plan differ from a personal mobile plan?

There are a few key differences between business mobile plans and personal mobile plans:

  • Features and benefits:  business mobile plans typically offer more features and benefits than personal mobile plans, such as multiple lines, more data and business support.
  • Price:  business mobile plans can be more expensive than personal mobile plans, but they may offer better value for money if your employees use their mobile devices heavily for work.
  • Contract:  business mobile plans often require a long contract, which can be good if you want to lock in a low price but less so if you need to change your plan frequently.
  • Security: business mobile plans typically offer more robust security features than personal mobile plans, such as MDM, security software and network security.

How do I choose the right business mobile plan for my business?

To choose the best mobile plan for your business, you need to consider your business needs. You should:

  • Assess your needs: evaluate your business’s communication needs. Consider how many lines you require, the amount of data and minutes needed, and any specific features or services essential for your operations.
  • Check handset deals: some business mobile plans include handsets. If you need new handsets, be sure to compare the cost of the devices as well as the cost of the mobile plan.
  • Look at additional features: consider any additional features or services offered with the plan. This could include mobile device management, priority customer support, or other tools that enhance your business operations.
  • Consider future growth: choose a plan that can scale with your business. This ensures that as your company grows, your mobile plan can accommodate the increased demand for services.
  • Evaluate network coverage: check whether the provider offers strong network coverage in the areas where your business operates. Poor coverage can lead to dropped calls and unreliable service.
  • Compare providers: research and compare different providers to find the one that offers the best combination of features, coverage and pricing for your business.

Frequently asked questions about business mobile plans

Whether or not you should get a business mobile plan as a sole trader depends on your individual needs and business requirements. As a sole trader, you may be able to use your personal device for work and still claim it on tax. However, signing up to a business plan can:

  • Provide additional features tailored to your business needs
  • Help separate personal and business expenses
  • Streamline communication
  • Enhance professionalism

Ensuring the security and protection of mobile devices on a business plan is crucial. There are a number of things you can do to ensure security and data protection for mobile devices on a business plan, such as:

  • Using an MDM solution
  • Using strong passwords and enable multifactor authentication (MFA)
  • Keeping software up to date
  • Educating your employees about mobile security

Yes – many business mobile plans can be integrated with other business communication tools or systems, such as customer relationship management (CRM) software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. This integration can help you to improve your productivity and efficiency by streamlining your communication and workflows.

To find out whether or not a particular business mobile plan can be integrated with your existing business communication tools or systems, you should contact your provider.

If you lose your phone for business use, you should contact your provider immediately. They may be able to suspend your service or remotely wipe data from your device to protect your business data.

You may also need to file a police report if your phone is stolen. This will help to protect your identity and credit history.

If an employee leaves the company, you should collect any company-owned devices from them. You should remove the former employee’s access to company systems and change the passwords for any accounts that were accessed on the phone. Alternatively, if the employee has the option to buy the device, you must ensure it is reset and all company data is wiped from the phone. It’s important to have clear policies in place regarding company-provided devices.

You can't purchase an eero device from More on a stand-alone basis or without a compatible More internet service.

Each More eero comes with an eero Secure subscription included for 12 months at no additional cost for use with a compatible More internet service. The initial 12-month subscription commences:

  • if you purchase an eero device with a new compatible More internet service, on the date that service is first activated; or
  • if you have an existing compatible More internet service, on the date your eero device is sent to you.

After this promotional period, your eero Secure subscription automatically converts to a paid month-to-month service. You will then be charged monthly in advance at the recommended retail price (RRP) per account (regardless of number of purchased or connected devices) as part of your standard monthly bill until your eero Secure subscription is cancelled. The price of an eero Secure subscription is currently $2.99/mth (inc GST) per account, subject to change on 30 days notice.

You cannot purchase an eero device from More without also receiving an eero Secure subscription. However, you can cancel it at any time by contacting us. Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period, as long as it is requested at least 5 days before that date. Otherwise, it will take effect at the end of your next billing period. You can continue to use eero Secure until the date of cancellation.

If you cancel your eero Secure subscription, we will disassociate it from all your eero devices connected to your account and you can continue to use a disassociated device with your compatible More internet service. However, once this occurs, you cannot reactivate an eero Secure Subscription with More unless you purchase a new eero devices from us.

Your eero device and eero Secure subscription are subject to the full offer T&Cs, applicable standard terms of service and policies available on the Policies page of our website. By continuing with your eero device purchase you agree to these terms.

International roaming travel packs

An International Roaming Travel Pack is a once-off service add-on which allows you to use your mobile service outside Australia in eligible countries. Each pack comes with a fixed allocation of data, standard SMS, and standard voice call minutes to be used within the pack's life span.

You can only use international roaming services if you have an active International Roaming Travel Pack, and we have two packs to choose from:

Eligible countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey (UK), Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Turkey, United Arab Emirates (UAE), UK, USA, Vanuatu, Vietnam.

What happens if I travel to a country that isn't in the listed eligible countries?

Your mobile service and an International Roaming Travel Pack service just won't work!  Will I be charged fees if I travel overseas without activating an International Roaming Travel Pack?

No, you're never at risk of any surprise international service fees when travelling. Your service won't work overseas until you've purchased and activated a travel pack. You can access your Self Care Portal while overseas without incurring any data charges, to buy and activate travel packs.  How do I purchase and activate a travel pack?

  • Log into your   Self Care Portal
  • Select the 'Mobile' tab and 'Active Mobile Services' from the drop-down
  • Select 'View' on your mobile service
  • Select 'Add Travel Pack'
  • Choose from the available travel packs, select your desired activation date from the drop-down menu and then click 'Activate'

If you choose to activate your travel pack 'Today' you will be able to start using your travel pack immediately, but the validity period for your travel pack will begin at 12.00 am (Australian Eastern Time) the following day. For example, if you purchase a pack at 2.30 pm on a Monday, Day 1 of your pack's life span will begin at 12.00 am Tuesday morning and your pack will expire at 11.59 pm (Australian Eastern Time) on the final day of your pack's life span. Any unused data, SMS or voice call minutes are forfeited at the time of expiry. Will I know how much data, SMS and voice call minutes are left?

You'll receive alerts when you have used 50%, 85% and 100% of your travel pack inclusions. Will I be charged fees if I go over the data allowance?

No, you won't. When your data allowance runs out, the service will just stop working. You can purchase another travel pack to top up. The same applies to SMS and voice call minutes allowances.  If I run out of data first, can I top up just my data allowance?

Unfortunately, no. To top up an allowance, you need to purchase a new International Roaming Travel Pack. You can purchase a new pack at any time, and the newly activated pack will replace your existing pack, forfeiting any unused data, SMS and voice call minutes.

20GB Business First M2M Voice Plan

No excess data charges.

First use 20GB Max Speed Data at the fastest speed our network allows, then keep using data in Oz up to 2Mbps .

Max Speed Data Allowance explained

Once you've used your Max Speed data allowance, you can continue to use data at speeds of up to 2Mbps or 10Mbps depending on your chosen plan. Unlimited Max Speed Data plans come with unlimited Max Speed data.

Max Speed is the fastest speed that our network can deliver to your phone at the time and place you’re using data. You can share Max Speed data with other Business First Plans. Unlimited Max Speed Data Plans are not eligible for data sharing.

Here’s what you can do at speeds of 2Mbps or 10Mbps. However, these are “up to” speeds - therefore your experience will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion and network coverage. 2Mbps is great for browsing, social media and streaming music but is not suitable for HD video. 10Mbps is great for high definition video and video calling, but uploading large files to the web may be slow.

Month to month No lock-in contract, giving more flexibility for you and your team.

If you do not want to participate, or continue to participate in the Trial, please ensure you turn 5G off in your settings on your compatible device. If you are an Eligible Customer and would like to participate, or continue to participate in the Trial, you don’t need to do anything to access the trial, however, you must: (1) have an active mobile recharge on an Eligible Plan; (2) have a 5G compatible device; and (3) be in a 5G coverage area. If you choose to participate in the Trial, you will not be charged any additional costs (ie. you are only required to pay the fees for your active recharge on an Eligible Plan) and all your standard inclusions for your chosen plan will remain the same.

Important Things You Need To Know

About your mobile plan, general for all plans:.

All iiNet mobile plans are prepaid and auto-renew every month until you cancel. The recurring monthly plan fee is charged in advance, 7 days before the start of the next billing cycle.

Included Data:

All data for use in Australia within 4G coverage areas. When customers are not within a 4G coverage area, the mobile service will automatically switch over to 3G and speeds will be much less than that of 4G.

Actual speeds and functionalities may vary due to things like device capability, location, and network congestion.

iiNet Mobile plans have a specific amount of included data each month. Data usage (including for social networking) is not unlimited and will be taken out of your included data. Once all included data has been used, data will not be available until your next monthly billing cycle, unless you purchase Excess Data. Tethering is permitted to personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service.

iiNet will endeavour to warn you via SMS when you are about to exceed and have exceeded your included plan value amount. iiNet displays the information regarding usage to you at toolbox.iinet.net.au. Usage will generally appear in Toolbox within 48 hours. You are responsible for any usage irrespective of any warnings.

If you have any questions, please call iiNet Customer Support on 13 22 58.

Excluded Usage:

These plans exclude excess data, calls to international numbers (except the Extra Large plan which includes standard calls to select international destinations for 100 minutes), SMS and MMS to international numbers, calls to satellite phones, third party content, video calls to standard Australian and international numbers, international roaming, directory assistance and other enhanced services. Calls and SMS to 19 numbers, diversion to international numbers, and premium SMS/MMS are not available.

Unlimited Usage:

Unlimited National Calls, SMS & MMS to Standard AU Numbers (includes 13/1300). Excludes premium services and video calls. Personal use only. Acceptable use policy applies.

Prepaid Balance:

In addition to your recurring monthly plan charge, you have the option to make additional prepayments for usage that is not within the included value for your plan, which will be classified as your “Prepaid Balance”. Minimum $10 top-up to Prepaid Balance required. You may top-up your Prepaid Balance when you purchase your service or any time at toolbox.iinet.net.au. If your service is cancelled, any unused balance of your Prepaid Balance will not be refunded.

Excess Data:

iiNet Mobile plans have a certain amount of included data each monthly billing cycle. If at any time in a billing cycle you use up the amount of included data, we will charge $10 out of your Prepaid Balance to increase the amount of included data available in that particular billing cycle by 2GB. If there are insufficient funds in your Prepaid Balance, your mobile data will become inactive until your Prepaid Balance is topped up.

Charges for Excess Data:

We will charge $10 out of your Prepaid Balance (if available) which will give you an extra 2GB to use for the remainder of the billing period .

Over 2GB excess data:

We will charge an additional $10 out of your Prepaid Balance (if available) which will give you an extra 2GB to use for the remainder of the billing period.

Extra Large Plan Inclusion – 100 Minutes of Standard International Calls:

The Extra Large plan includes 100 minutes of standard international calls to select countries each month. See International Call Rates at iinet.net.au/mobile-internationalrates for a full list of included countries. Countries may vary. Video calls and calls to satellite phones are excluded. Calls to excluded countries, or calls to included countries after the first 100 minutes, will be charged at Pay As You Go rates (charged from Prepaid Balance, if available). See International Call Rates at iinet.net.au/mobile-internationalrates for a full list of call rates.

International Roaming:

International roaming is not included in iiNet Mobile plans. Charges for international roaming will be deducted from your Prepaid Balance on a Pay As You Go basis. Significantly higher call, SMS and data rates will apply. See SIM Only Plans for Mobile Phones for roaming rates. We recommend that you opt-in to International Roaming via Toolbox before leaving Australia. If you need to turn on International Roaming after leaving Australia, please call us on 13 22 58 from any phone. We highly recommend you disable Mobile Data and roaming settings on your device before going overseas to ensure that you do not incur unexpected and high data usage fees whilst roaming. See iiHelp for more information.

Included data

iiNet plans have a specific amount of included data each month. Data usage (including for social networking) is not unlimited and will be taken out of your included data.

Mobile data is enabled by default on all iiNet plans. When using Mobile data, you are able to use services like internet browsing, email, navigation, downloading maps, checking the weather and various other online services on your mobile phone. These services use data.

  • If you exceed your plan's included mobile data value, additional excess data usage charges may be payable in accordance with the terms of the plan you acquire.
  • Data usage includes combined upload & download data transfer.
  • Any unused included mobile data in a month does not roll over into subsequent months and will be forfeited at the end of each monthly billing period.
  • The data usage records in Toolbox may be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
  • Some mobile phones have the capability to run multiple data sessions at the same time. This will be recorded in your mobile usage as overlapping data usage within the same time periods.

Payments and prepaid balances

These iiNet mobile services are prepaid. You must pay the monthly recurring charges in advance. In addition, you have the option to make additional prepayment for usage that is not within the included value for your plan (“Additional Prepayment”) up to the amount of the Additional Prepayment or the balance of it from time to time. You may make Additional Prepayment at the time of commencement of your service or at any time or times afterwards via the Toolbox section of the iiNet website. If you choose to make Additional Prepayment, the amount will be debited from your nominated bank account or credit card. We will send you messages about your usage during the month. If your service is cancelled any unused balance of the Additional Prepayment (“Prepaid Balance”) will not be refunded to you but will be retained by iiNet. You agree that no bill will be provided for this service and that direct debiting of your account or charge to your credit card may occur notwithstanding that no bill is provided and that it may occur even though you may not have had the opportunity to check charges at least 10 working days before the debit.

Excess data

These plans have a certain amount of included data each monthly billing cycle. If at any time in a billing cycle you use more than the amount of included data, we will charge $10 out of your Prepaid Balance to increase the amount of included data available in that particular billing cycle by 2GB. If there is insufficient funds in your Prepaid Balance, your mobile data will become inactive until your Prepaid Balance is topped up to a sufficient level. If your usage is high, this can occur more than once per month.

Example of charges:

  • 1MB excess data: We will charge $10 out of your Prepaid Balance which will give you an extra 2GB to use for the billing period
  • Over 2GB excess data: We will charge another $10 out of your Prepaid Balance which will give you another extra 2GB to use for the billing period

iiNet will endeavour to warn you via SMS when you are about to exceed and have exceeded your included plan value amount. iiNet displays the information regarding usage to you (via Toolbox) 30 minutes after you accrue it. You are responsible for any usage irrespective of any warnings.

  • Commonly asked questions about long expiry prepaid plans

There was a time when even the best 365-day plans featured only the minimum inclusions and were used more for receiving calls than making them (or parking a phone number ). Back then, prepaid plans with 30-day recharge cycles included more overall value for calls and data. These days, most long expiry plans have shifted with the times, focusing more on data-usage than phone calls and texts.

In this guide, we're going to take a look at the best 365-day plans and long-expiry prepaid plans available in Australia. But first, here's a look at the most popular plans in this category:

The most popular 365-day plans in Australia

The best 365-day prepaid plans and where to find them.

365-day prepaid plans (also known as long expiry plans) are a type of SIM-only mobile plan that lets you lock in a year of on-the-go coverage and connectivity in advance. You pay upfront, but once you've done that you're free to use all the data and other inclusions your plan includes however you want.

The only catch is that if you use up your data faster than you expect, you may need to recharge and top it early. Otherwise, you've got an entire year from the moment you sign up to use it or lose it.

✓ How we picked the best cheap 365-day long expiry prepaid mobile plan:

  • We ranked long-expiry mobile phone plans in our database by price and chose one that offered the best coverage and value at the cheapest price. We factored in the cost per gigabyte and other relevant inclusions.

Our April pick for the best cheap prepaid plan with a long expiry is the Catch 365 Day Plan - 120GB. This thrifty entry in our list of the best 365-day plans offers unlimited national calls and texts and 120GB of data for $119 with a 365-day expiry.

Obviously, if you guzzle data like water on a hot day then 120GB of data won't suffice for a full year (10GB per month), but if you hardly ever use the internet on your phone, this could be a cost-effective option for you.

The only catch here is that you'll revert to the usual $150 on the first recharge and you have to sign up before 9 April 2024 to get the cheaper price.

If Catch's plan doesn't suit your fancy, here's a list of other 365-day prepaid plans for under $150.

Kogan Small - 365 Day Flex Plan

  • Network : Vodafone 4G
  • International roaming: From $10
  • Data rollover : No
  • Cost per month over the course of a year: $8.33

If you're in the market for a top-value 365-day long expiry plan, it's hard to look past this one from Kogan . It offers all the usual unlimited call and SMS trimmings (nationally), 80GB of data and 4G speeds on the Vodafone network.

If you sign up before November 30 2024, you'll score an additional 40GB and pay just $120 rather than the usual $179.99. Recharges will revert the cost to the usual rate, but if you're after a lot of data and 365-day expiry this is a standout choice.

For other options, check out the list below for more 365-day prepaid plans for less than $200 per month.

Best 180-day long expiry prepaid plans

Lebara medium 180 day plan.

  • International roaming: From $7
  • Data banking : Up to 200GB
  • Cost per month over the course of a year: $8.25

If you don’t want to commit to the full 12 months with a 1-year prepaid phone plan, the Lebara Large 180-day plan is currently the best value choice with a decent 140GB of data for $140.

This one shakes out at roughly 11.5GB per month and includes unlimited standard national calls and texts, as well as unlimited calls and texts to 35 selected countries and another 50 minutes to Zone 1 countries. Lebara operates on the Vodafone 4G mobile network so be sure to check your coverage before signing up.

At the time of writing, Everyday Mobile (formerly Woolworths Mobile) is the second cheapest 180-day prepaid plan at $100 per month. However,, that's with just 60GB of data. For our money, we'll take the cheaper plan and more generous data allowance on offer from Lebara.

✓ How we picked the best 180-day long expiry prepaid mobile plan:

  • We ranked long-expiry mobile phone plans with 180 day expiry in our database by price and chose one that offered the best coverage and value. We factored in the cost per gigabyte and other relevant inclusions.

Catch 365 Day Plan - 60GB

The most popular option for long-expiry plans and providers on the Optus network at the moment is powered by Catch Connect. This prepaid plan includes 60GB of data with a 365-day expiry, which works out to be 5GB per month. That's not going to be enough if you stream Netflix in your morning commute but if you don't use much data and want to set and forget about your mobile bill, it might do the trick.

Optus itself offers a huge variety of long-expiry prepaid options but the majority of them don’t actually include any data and instead charge per MB used (which is deducted from your recharge amount). This is an archaic pricing model but Optus does also have options for long expiry prepaid with included data.

Best long expiry on the Telstra network

Everyday mobile $170 long-expiry.

  • Network : Telstra 3G/4G
  • Data banking : Yes
  • Cost per month over the course of a year: $10.41

We've gone with Everyday Mobile for our pick of the best 365-day plans on the Telstra network for a few reasons.

Firstly, it offers decent data-per-dollar value at $170 for 125GB every 365 days (plus unlimited standard national calls). This prepaid plan has data rollover when you recharge before an expiry date, making it an even better deal.

The other reason we've rolled with Woolworths is its included grocery shopping discounts that you can claim every other month. If you spend $500 in one shop at Woolworths, you'll get 10% off, potentially saving yourself $50 per month. It's a great perk for big families where a $500 shop will be enough to get you through the weekend.

Here's a look at other long-expiry plans available on the Telstra network.

Our methodology

As always, all of our returning picks for the top long expiry mobile plans have been vetted to ensure they’re the best value at the start of the month. We compare all relevant Prepaid recharges and subscriptions to pick new winners or confirm the continued reign of incumbent victors.

When looking at plans, we compare on price and inclusions. A cheap plan might not be great value if the included data allowance is stingy. We weigh up both price and included data to determine the best value long-expiry plans.

How to pick the best 365 day prepaid plan for your needs

Read the fine print and pay attention to the terms and duration of your recharge..

Dylan Crismale, Digital Content Editor

Long expiry prepaid plans are, by their very nature, relatively straightforward and no-fuss. That simplicity is a big reason that people opt for them. Still, there's a few things to keep an eye out for when choosing a 365 day or 1 year prepaid phone plan:

Longer recharge durations

There are a few different types of long expiry prepaid options. The most common is the 365-day recharge, but there are also 90-day and 180-day options. Every now and then, telcos will off one-year recharge options, which won't necessarily last you 365 days, instead they expire on a year from the day you activate.

Better dollars-to-data value

The easiest way to compare long expiry prepaid options is to calculate the equivalent monthly cost and inclusions. This allows you to compare 180-day and 365-day recharge options in a like-for-like way. For example, Kogan's $120 Small Flex Plan costs $120 for the first year and gets you 80GB of data to use over the year. That works out at roughly $10 and 6.6GB of data per month.

Data rollover

Different telcos offer different data rollover offers (some don't offer it at all). Some allow you to bank a limited amount of unused data for your next recharge, others let you rollover all of your unused data if you recharge before the expiry date. It's important to know which data rollover or data banking option is available to you before signing up.

Auto-recharge with no excess data fees

Again, different telcos have different ways of handling excess data charges. Some will simply charge a per-megabyte rate for all data used in excess of your inclusions, deducting that amount from the dollar value of your recharge amount. Others offer convenient auto-recharge options that automatically top-up your balance via direct debit when you run out of credit or your plan expires

Long expiry prepaid plan and recharge FAQs

Here are the most commonly asked question we get about the best 365-day prepaid and long expiry plans, is it cheaper to get a 365-day plan.

While 365 day and 1 year prepaid phone plans do command an expensive upfront cost, they can sometimes work out to be cheaper than their month-to-month counterparts. However, the downside of this affordability is that they tend to offer significantly less value from a dollars-per-gigabyte perspective. You're paying less, but you aren't getting as much for your money.

Are long expiry prepaid plans better value than monthly plans?

Long expiry, 365 day and 1 year prepaid phone plans are great for those who don't use that much data or like the idea of locking in the cost of their phone bill ahead of time. However, they aren't necessarily going to be the right for everyone as monthly plans can offer significantly more data, perks and flexibility.

Is there a 365-day long expiry plan with unlimited data?

At the time of writing, there are no long expiry prepaid plans with unlimited data . If you do want excess-charge free or unmetered data, you'll have to go with a postpaid provider like Felix or Dodo.

Are there any 365 day mobile plans that don't expire?

No. Unfortunately, every prepaid mobile plan in Australia has some sort of timeline on when it will expire. If you're keen to put off having to think about your mobile plan for as long as possible, a 365-day long expiry plan like the ones featured on this page may be the best choice.

What happens if I don't use up all my prepaid data?

Typically, Aussies signed up for a long expiry prepaid mobile plan like the ones featured on this page lose any remaining or unused data once their expiry date arrives. However, some providers offer a form of data banking or data rollover. So long as you meet that (and any other) criteria, some amount of your data will carry over into your next recharge.

What is the cheapest 365 day plan?

If you're looking for the cheapest 365-day mobile plan, you're probably looking at spending around $100. However, that only applies if there's a good deal going. If there isn't, then you're looking at closer to $120.

Do you get access to all the data for a 365-day plan upfront?

Yes. Usually, prepaid plans give you all the data at the start of your plan's life rather than later on. The upside of this is that you can use the data how you want when you want. The downside is that you can get through your data allowance well before your expiry date arrives if you aren't careful. To help with that, some providers allow you to break your data out into neat monthly allotments.

How long does a long expiry prepaid plan last?

Long expiry prepaid plans vary in terms of how long they last. Shorter long expiry plans can last either 90 or 180 days while longer ones can last you a whole year.

Unless you can fund your business operations and then generate enough revenue to make a profit, your business is destined for failure eventually. You need to determine if your business is viable and how you’ll attract customers or investors.

It’s wise to develop a business plan that articulates your core goals and how you’ll achieve them. You can do this independently or seek the guidance of a professional business consultant.

A business plan might cover:

  • What you’ll offer and how, your target market, your unique selling points, and pricing.
  • Market research, branding, marketing plans, sales channels and customer service strategies.
  • Location, equipment, inventory, software, payment systems, and suppliers you’ll need.
  • The high-level legal, compliance and risk management facets of running your business.
  • Whether you’ll have employees and how they’ll be recruited, paid and managed.
  • Establishment and overheads costs, funding/loans, sales and cash flow projections.
  • The timing, people, resources and activities needed to make your plan a reality.

Business Queensland and Business Victoria both provide helpful business plan templates.

Another critical aspect of business set-up—once you know your business idea has legs—is choosing a business structure that aligns with how you’ll operate. The structure you chose will affect how you’re taxed and your administrative burden.

There are four business structures in Australia:

  • Sole trader: This gives you full control but also means you’re personally responsible for all business liabilities. It’s simpler too: you’ll report your business income in your individual tax return.
  • Partnership: Two or more people who share control and business liabilities. Partnerships must prepare a separate partnership tax return.
  • Trust: A separate legal entity where a single person/entity, the trustee, holds the business’ assets and is responsible for how its run—on behalf of others, known as beneficiaries. Requires a formal trust deed and can be more costly and complex to set-up. Liability is limited where the trustee is a company.
  • Company: A separate legal entity. While your personal liability is limited with a company, it’s also more expensive and complex, requiring registration with ASIC and placing legal responsibilities on the director/s.

It generally pays to seek professional advice if you’re not sure whether a sole trader, partnership, trust or company structure is right for you.

There’s a multitude of different registrations needed to stay above board. Fortunately, you can do many in one online application process via the government’s Business Registration Service .

Here are the key registrations for Australian businesses:

Australian Business Number (ABN)

An ABN is a free, unique identifier you’ll need to:

  • Add to your invoices to show clients and suppliers you’re legitimate.
  • Avoid having businesses you invoice withhold tax.
  • Be able to claim tax credits on business expenses.
  • Set up a domain name with ‘.au’ in the URL.
  • Register for GST and pay as you go (PAYG) withholding.

You’ll need an ABN before you can register your business name—but you can apply for both at once.

If you choose a company structure, you’ll first need to apply for an Australian Company Number (ACN) and company name. Be aware that fees apply .

Note, you’ll receive a separate Tax File Number (TFN) for your business—automatically issued by the Australian Tax Office (ATO)—once you apply for an ABN for a partnership, company or trust.

Business Tax Registrations

Common tax registrations include:

  • Goods and Services Tax (GST)
  • Pay as You Go (PAYG) withholding

As soon your annual business turnover cracks the $75,000 mark, you’re required to register to collect the Goods and Services Tax (GST). So, if you think you’ll be on track to earn more than that in your first year of operation—registering for GST up-front is smart.

According to the ATO , you also must register for GST if:

  • Your business charges passengers for taxi services or limousine travel (including ride sharing).
  • You want to claim Fuel Tax Credits (FTC) or need to register for the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) or Luxury Car Tax (LCT).

Once you’re registered for GST, you’ll need to complete regular business activity statements (BAS) .

If you’ll be employing people or have company directors to pay, you’ll need to register for PAYGW so you can collect tax from the income—and then report and pay this tax to the ATO. You’ll also need to register for PAYGW if you’ll be paying businesses that don’t provide you with an ABN.

[pro_tip As soon your annual business turnover cracks the $75,000 mark, you’re required to register to collect the Goods and Services Tax (GST). So, if you think you’ll be on track to earn more than that in your first year of operation—registering for GST up-front is smart

Business Name Registration

Your business name isn’t necessarily how you brand or market yourself. It’s the legal entity name of your business and allows you to operate Australia-wide.

ASIC’s fees for registering and renewing a business name are:

  • $42 for one year
  • $98 for three years

ASIC will send you a reminder by email 30 days before you need to renew your business name registration. A common and misleading tactic targeting business owners is unofficial letters or emails reminding you to renew and pay for your business name registration.

If it isn’t official correspondence from ASIC, you can ignore it. They’re either trying to scam you (the letter or email is fake), or profit from providing a service you don’t need (they add a charge on top of ASIC’s fee). Of course, some people may prefer to deal with a private service provider, accountant or solicitor to manage registrations and renewals—but carefully check their fees and legitimacy beforehand.

Registering a trademark isn’t required, but it could be a savvy way to protect your brand. For example, if another business owner trademarks a similar name to the one you use for your business, they could bring legal action against you.

Trademarking comes at a cost—a minimum of $250 and up to $600 through IP Australia .

You may wish to search existing trademarks before you settle on a business trading name.

Business bank accounts are critical for clean record-keeping for your business, even if you’re a micro business or sole trader. Keeping business funds separate is also a requirement if your business is structured as a company, trust or partnership.

Learn more in our guide to the best business bank accounts for Australians .

In addition to a business account, you might also explore accounting software that links to your bank transactions and helps you streamline invoicing, budgeting and organising your tax obligations.

Managing risk and staying compliant should be high on your list. It’s important to familiarise yourself with national and state fair trading laws and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission regulations that you’ll be subject to, so you’re not in conflict with industry standards, consumer law, safety rules or ethical practices.

Other legal matters to investigate include:

  • Privacy and data collection laws. If you collect people’s details through a contact form on your site, you should also provide a privacy policy link.
  • Employment, superannuation and workplace health and safety laws.
  • Legal requirements around importing and exporting.
  • Environmental protection laws, depending on your business kind.

Insurance can also provide a solid foundation for your business. Consider your need for:

  • Workers’ compensation insurance (mandatory if you employ people).
  • Public liability insurance (compulsory for some companies).
  • Equipment or stock insurance.
  • Income protection insurance.
  • Management liability insurance.
  • Cyber risk insurance.

Online shopping and research is the default nowadays, so one of the first steps you should take when setting up your business is securing your online presence. Regardless of whether you sell flowers from a market stall, have a bricks-and-mortar clothing store, or you build mobile apps—you’ll likely need a website for your business, and use social media for promotion.

Remember, you’ll need an ABN if you want to register a domain name for your website that indicates you’re Australian-based, such as ‘. com.au ‘, or ‘. net.au ‘. You may opt for .com if you’re selling into overseas markets.

Once you’ve determined the channels you want to focus on (e.g., Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn), you should set up accounts and choose a username that aligns closely with your business name. It’s probably unrealistic to have your business on every kind of social platform—you’ll need time to create content, engage with audiences and monitor messages.

Don’t forget your online presence on major marketplaces and search engines—such as a Google My Business profile, or dual listings of your products on sites like Amazon or eBay.

How much does it cost to register a business in Australia?

Registering your business name through the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) costs $42 for one year and $98 for three years.

What do you need to open a business in Australia?

To open a business in Australia, it’s recommended that you: develop a plan for how you’re business will attract customers and make a profit; select a business structure; apply for an ABN and register your business name; register for tax purposes such as GST and PAYG withholding; open a business bank account; become familiar with legal obligations; take out business insurance; and set up a website and other online channels for promotion.

Does ABN cost money?

Getting an ABN (Australian Business Number) is free, and anyone operating a business (or taking steps to start a business) in Australia is eligible. You can apply via the government’s Business Registration Service .

It will be used first; thereafter data is available at speeds of up to 2Mbps until your next billing month.

With 2Mbps you can check your socials, browse the web and stream music but is not suitable for HD video. For more information, check out our  speed guide . Tethering is permitted to personal devices only, but must not be used in a modem or as a substitute for a home internet service. Heavy data users may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. Actual speeds you reach will continually vary depending on many factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion, network coverage, if you are roaming and if you are a heavy data user.  Fair Use Policy applies.

Sharing on Team Plans A business customer must have a consumer postpaid plan (either voice or tablet) on their account (‘Primary Service’). This gives a customer the ability to add up to 9 Team Plans (either voice or tablet) on their business account so the included data (formerly known as Max Speed data) of the Primary Service/s can share with the Team Plans. Data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps is not shareable. If you cancel your consumer postpaid or tablet service/s on your account, your Team Plans will remain.

$5 Roaming on Team Plans Countries subject to change, see current list and full details . Available to eligible customers, see terms for details specific to your plan. $5 Daily Charge is in addition to minimum monthly spend and allows you to use your plan’s inclusions in Eligible Countries for $5 per day. Team Plans can access the sharing group’s included data (formerly known as Max Speed data) while $5 Roaming. Data capped at speeds up to 1.5, 2, 10 or 25Mbps is not accessible while $5 Roaming. Once your included data is exhausted, additional data will be automatically added at a charge of $5/GB ($0.005/MB) (“Additional Roaming Data”). Additional Roaming Data expires at the end of your next billing period, is shareable (excludes plans with unlimited data which do not share data) and can only be used while in $5 Roaming countries. Max 90 days of use in any calendar year. Opt-out at any time, visit My Vodafone or call 1555. All roaming services subject to network availability.

Voicemail Calls to 121 only. Visual Voicemail uses data.

Frequently asked questions

Do i have to be a telstra customer to take up a bundle plan.

Yes, to take up a bundle plan you must have an Essential or Premium mobile or data plan with Telstra.

How many Bundle Plans can I add to my account?

If you’re an Upfront plan customer, you can add up to 5 Bundle Plans in total, regardless of the number of Essential and Premium Plans you have active on your account. If you’re not an Upfront plan customer, you can add 5 Bundle Plans to each Essential and Premium mobile or data plan you have active on your account.

How can I check if I’m on an eligible plan for bundling?

To check if you’re on a mobile plan that allows bundling and data sharing, message us.

Can you keep the same mobile number when you move to a Bundle Plan?

Yes, you can move an existing Telstra number from our Basic, Essential, or Premium plans to a Bundle Plan, provided there is at least one other Essential or Premium plan on the same account. We'll take care of the number transfer process remotely once you have purchased your Bundle Plan.

Can I add a new phone and a new SIM bundle plan at the same time?

Yes, you can purchase a new mobile phone with Telstra first, then add a Mobile Bundle Plan. Browse our range of latest mobiles .

What mobile plans can I add Bundle Plans to?

You can add Bundle Plans to Telstra Upfront Essential and Upfront Premium business mobile plans .

You can also add bundles to older Telstra mobile essential and premium, plans however you will not be able to share data between plans on the one account.

If I downgrade or cancel my mobile or data plan, what happens to associated Bundle Plans?

You’re eligible to add on up to 5 Bundle Plans if you’re on an Essential or Premium Mobile plan. If you cancel or change your Essential or Premium Mobile plan you will no longer be eligible for Bundle Plans and existing Mobile Bundle Plans or Data Bundle Plans will be moved to an in-market plan. We’ll be in touch to let you know about these changes.

Can I share data if I’m on an older Telstra mobile plan?

No. While you can add a Bundle Plan onto an older mobile plan service, you can't share data between those phones. This is because our older mobile plans don’t support data sharing.

To check if you’re on a mobile plan that allows bundling and data sharing,  message us .

Things you need to know

Your month-to-month plan may change (including price and inclusions). With no lock-in, you can change your plan once a month or leave. If you leave, just pay out your device, accessories or services in full.

Telstra currently offers 5G in select areas and is progressively rolling it out to other areas. In non-5G coverage areas, you’ll automatically switch to our 4G or 3G.

Check Coverage using our Coverage Maps .

The Telstra Mobile Network offers 4GX in all capital CBDs and selected suburban and regional areas and is progressively rolling out to more places. In other coverage areas around Australia, you’ll automatically switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G.

Typical download speeds in 4GX areas are 5 -300Mbps with category 16 devices, 5-200Mbps with category 11 devices, 5-150Mbps with category 9 devices, 2-100Mbps with category 6 devices, and 2-75Mbps with category 4 devices. Outside 4GX areas, you will switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G speeds. Speeds vary for reasons like location, distance from base stations, terrain, user numbers, hardware/software configuration, download source and upload destination.

Data plan is required. 4GX available in 4GX enabled areas.

Month-to-month plans

If you cancel your service, you will receive a pro rata refund for the remainder of your month. If you have any device, accessory or service add-ons attached to your plan, you will have to pay any remaining amount owing on your next bill.

Device Payment Contract

You must have an eligible Telstra Data Plan in order to have a Device Payment Contract. If you cancel your Device Payment Contract early, cancel your data plan during the device payment term or move to an ineligible data plan during the payment term, you’ll need to pay out your device, in full. Device discounts do not apply to cancelled Device Payment Contracts.

Talk, Text and Data

Calls to standard Australian numbers are at a pay-as-you-go rate of $1 per minute, charged in 1 minute blocks or part thereof. SMS/MMS to standard Australian numbers are charged at a pay-as-you-go rate of 25c for SMS and 55c for MMS per message sent, per recipient.

No excess data charges in Australia

Once you exceed your included data allowance, your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps, and slowed further in busy periods. This means it is not suitable for HD video or high speed applications and means that some webpages, videos, social media content and files may take longer to load, but you can still stream video in standard definition, listen to music, browse the web and access social media, even if the experience is slower sometimes.

No Excess Data Charges – Existing Services

Any existing shareable services on your account with Extra Data will be automatically migrated to No Excess Data Charges when you take up this plan.

International Roaming

To use your service overseas, you can purchase an International Day Pass at $5 per day in New Zealand, or $10 per day in more than 70 eligible countries. Day Pass includes 200MB of data to use per day as well as unlimited talk and text. Usage expires daily based on AEST. If you go over your 200MB, we'll add an additional 500MB for $10 for use within 31 days. A Day Pass is triggered whenever a call is made or received, an SMS is sent or if any mobile data is used in an eligible country.

If you’re travelling to a country where our International Day Pass isn’t available, you can still use your device at pay-as-you-go rates.

For more info  View eligible destinations .

Annual Price Review

Our mobile and data plans include an annual price review and may increase in line with CPI in July each year. CPI measures household inflation and is released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. We'll use the CPI for full year to March quarter and any increase will be rounded to the nearest dollar and occurs within your July billing cycle. We'll let you know before any changes take effect.
